Old Westbury collects its first win of the season in Tuesday's Skyline Conference opener

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball opened Skyline Conference play at home Tuesday evening with a convincing 76-64 victory over the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles from Clark Athletic Center.

Old Westbury (1-2, 1-0 Skyline) used a 14-4 run to make way for a 21-14 lead with 8:20 remaining in the opening half.  Keith Lackerson would later connect on one of his four triples on the day to spark an 8-1 run for the Panthers' 32-23 advantage.  The Golden Eagles (1-4, 0-1 Skyline) would score the final five points of the half to trail Old Westbury 32-28 at intermission.  

St. Joseph's (L.I.) pressured the Panthers early in the second half as Andy Laurent sank a three pointer at 16:33 to make it a three-point game (37-34).  P.J. Page scored eight points during a key 12-3 Old Westbury spurt from 15:23 to 12:03 to take a 49-37 lead.  Lackerson's three ball at 9:04 showing on the second-half clock put the Panthers up by double-digits for the remainder of the game.  Old Westbury's lead swelled to a game-high 16 points on three separate occasions throughout the final 4:30 of play.     

Lackerson posted a monster game by scoring a career-high 21 points (6-12 FG, 4-4 3FG) to go along with 10 rebounds (career high), three assists (tied career-high), one block and one steal.  Jamail Stanley followed with career-highs of 19 points (7-17 FG) and 14 rebounds (nine offensive) and three assists.  P.J. Page contributed 16 points (3-6 3FG), four blocks and one steal while Lylle Ryals added 12 points (2-4 3FG) and four steals.

Laurent poured in a game-high 24 points (5-10 3FG) to go with five assists (game high) to lead the Golden Eagles.  Fernando Vasquez followed with 19 points and Dominique Spann added 16.  

Old Westbury shot 36.4 percent from the field (24-66), 40 percent from three-point territory (10-25) and 69.2 percent from the free-throw line (18-26) as the Golden Eagles landed 34 percent from the floor (18-53), 31.3 percent from beyond the arc (10-32) and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe (18-26).   Old Westbury also owned a +27 rebounding advantage (56-29) while converting 20 offensive boards into 22 second-chance points.  
     
BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home for Monday's (Nov. 30) non-conference tilt against the Brooklyn Bulldogs at 7 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
