OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team fell 76-55 to the visiting Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on Thursday evening in a Skyline Conference showdown from Clark Athletic Center. With the loss, Old Westbury (9-11) now stands at 3-5 in conference play, while Mount Saint Vincent (14-5) improved to 5-3.

Chloe Mellon gave the Panthers an early lead off a put back to open the scoring books 48 seconds intop play.  Theresa Carey's free throw sparked a 13-3 Dolphin run to give the visitors a 13-6 lead with 11:02 remaining.  Both teams continued to trade buckets throughout most of the half until Mount Saint Vincent's lead grew to as many as 11 points (30-19) with 1:27 on the clock.  Crystal Barnes sank back-to-back jumpers from inside the paint to pull the Panthers within seven points (30-23) heading into intermission.   

Christina Barone opened the second half with a three pointer to put the Dolphins back up by 10 (33-23) with 19:29 to play. The Panthers responded with three-consecutive layups from Mellon, Barnes and Clarissa Gallagher to cut the deficit down to four points (33-29) with 17:19 remaining. At the 17:02 mark, Brittany Carroll landed a three-pointer to start a 20-5 Dolphin run, which built the lead to 53-34 with 10:56 remaining in the game. Barnes' layup with 10:21 helped guide Old Westbury on an 11-4 run over the next 4:23, bringing the score to 59-47 with 5:58 left to play. Mount Saint Vincent extended its lead to a game-high 22 points (74-52) off Kelly Fraser's layup with 1:48 showing on the second-half clock.  Gallagher then reached a milestone at 1:36, connecting on her 200th-career three pointer to close out the scoring for Old Westbury.

Gallagher led the way for the Panthers with a team-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds. Barnes chipped in with eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while Jasmine Robinson added 11 points off of the bench.  Mellon contributed eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Panthers.

Carroll's game-high 28 points (10-18FG, 8-11 3FG) paced the Dolphins to victory while Barone and Fraser each posted double-doubles. Barone finished with 11 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds while Fraser had 13 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 23.7 percent from the field (18-76), 22.2 percent on three-point attempts (4-18) and 51.7 percent from the free-throw line (15-29) while Mount Saint Vincent shot 40.8 percent on field goals (29-71), 46.2 percent from beyond the arc (12-26) and 54.5 percent at the charity stripe (6-11).  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 58-55, scoring 20 second-chance points off 24 offensive boards.  The Dolphins held the advantage in (20-7), steals (9-5), blocks (6-5) and fast-break points (23-13) in addition to scoring 23 points off 19 Panther turnovers.  
                               
YESHIVA MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will look to rebound from Thursday's setback when they travel to take on the Yeshiva Maccabees on Sunday (Feb. 8) at 2 p.m. from Baruch College's Arc Arena in New York, New York.
