Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team took the lead for good with 12:37 remaining in the opening half and never looked back as the Panthers registered a 68-48 Skyline Conference victory over the visiting Yeshiva Maccabees on Saturday evening from Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (8-12) improved to 8-5 in conference play while sending Yeshiva's (11-7) league record to 8-5.

Yeshiva controlled the early portion of the half, clinging to a two-point lead for most of the opening 7:22.  Old Westbury then took its first and final lead of the game when Reynaldo Walters sank a jumper with 12:37 remaining for the go-ahead basket, making it an 8-6 game.  Yisrael Feld would tie the game at 18 for Yeshiva with 6:30 left.  Nat Vaughan then connected on back-to-back triples as part of Old Westbury's 10-0 run for a 28-18 edge with 27 seconds remaining.  Benjamin Oirech hit a pair of free throws to cut Yeshiva's deficit to eight points, making it a 28-20 game at intermission.

Old Westbury pushed its second-half lead to 12 points early on and Yeshiva cut it back down to nine points with a Joseph Ammar three pointer at the 17:29 mark.  Floyd Leroy then contributed 10 points to Old Westbury's 17-6 run for a 53-33 lead with 12:13 showing on the second-half clock.  Yeshiva trimmed its deficit to 13 points off a 7-0 run to make it a 55-43 game with 8:20 remaining.  Old Westbury proved to be too much as the Panthers outscored Yeshiva 8-2 over the final 3:06 to secure the 20-point win.

Leroy and Walters each poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the Panthers to victory.  Leroy scored 16 second-half points to go along with eight rebounds, two steals and one block in 23 minutes of action.  Walters opened with 12 first-half points and added five assists and three steals to his stat line.  Nat Vaughan followed with eight points (2-3 3FG) off the bench and Omari Trebuse chipped in with four assists and three steals.

Feld finished with 11 points and Oirech added eight points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots for Yeshiva.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 43.3 percent from the field (26-60), 40.9 percent from three-point territory (9-22) and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line (7-11) while Yeshiva hit 35.4 percent from the floor (17-48), 40 percent from beyond the arc (6-15) and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe (8-9).  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 36-32, scoring 10 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury nabbed 15 steals and converted 22 Yeshiva turnovers into 23 points.
