Weir extends scoring streak for @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse at Drew

Old Westbury set to open Skyline Conference play against Purchase on March 23

MADISON, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse fired a season-high 16 shots on goal and scooped up 14 draw controls, but were unable to hold onto an early lead, falling 18-5 to the Drew Rangers on Thursday evening from Ranger Stadium.  With the loss, Old Westbury moved to 1-3 on the season, while Drew advanced to 3-0.

The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead when Courtney Gallagher found Halle Johnson for her third goal of the season 37 seconds into play.  Gallagher's assist was her team-leading third of the season.  Morgan Mason answered for Drew with goals at 27:32 and 25:42 to push the Rangers ahead, 2-1.  Mason's goals sparked a 9-0 run as Kelly Dwyer netted the game winner at 17:57 for a 6-1 lead.  Old Westbury's Danielle Weir ripped nylon for the fourth-straight game, finding the back of the cage with 14:25 left for her team-leading six goal of the season.  Imani Blake followed at 8:55 with her first-career goal to cut Old Westbury's deficit to six (9-3).  Drew scored two more goals to take an 11-3 lead into the half.

Drew added a pair of early second-half goals before Johnson struck at 24:10 with her first-career multi-goal game for the Panthers.  Weir closed out the scoring for Old Westbury at the 11:59 mark with her third multi-goal game of the season to make it a 16-5 game.

Weir, Gallagher and Sara Bey each corralled four draw controls.  Weir scooped up four ground balls and Gallagher, Bey and Ashley Gugliuzzo each followed with three.

Gugliuzzo (1-3) finished with seven saves for Old Westbury and Gianna Minogue stopped nine shots to secure Drew's victory.

Drew's Nikki Kleiman led all scorers with four goals and two assists as Krysta Cento racked up five draw controls.

In the end, Drew held the advantage in shots (30-16), shots on goal (25-14) and ground balls (20-18) while Old Westbury finished with a 14-11 edge in draw controls.
