Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball closed out the season with a sweep of the visiting John Jay Bloodhounds, claiming 1-0 and 7-2 victories Thursday afternoon from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury's three-game winning streak advanced its record to 8-24, while the Bloodhounds dropped to 13-19.

Game One: Old Westbury 1, John Jay 0
Elizabeth Redguard smacked a single to center field to lead off the Panthers' seventh.  Redguard then advanced to second off a wild pitch, and moved to third off Delana Murray's infield grounder.  Gabriella Valdes followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Redguard for the game-winning run.

After stranding five runners through four innings, Old Westbury grounded into three- straight outs to leave three more Panthers on base as John Jay starting right-hander Sara McKenna (3-9, 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB) escaped out of the jam in the fifth.

Old Westbury starting right-hander Nicole DeCola (4-12, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K) scattered three hits through six innings until surrendering a pair of singles to open the seventh.  DeCola intentionally walked Alinda Nicaj two batters later to load the bases.  DeCola then induced a grounder to throw Magnolia Perez out at home.  DeCola escaped out of the frame unscathed off an inning-ending ground out to second baseman Otilia Bernal.

Game Two: Old Westbury 7, John Jay 2
John Jay broke through in the second inning with Perez's two-out RBI single to score Jennifer Varela for the game's initial run.

Old Westbury answered in the bottom of the second with three runs to take hold of the game.  Valdes' RBI single tied the game, and two batters later, Corrine Protasiewicz (2-for-4, R, SB) scored two unearned runs off left fielder Danielle Minaya's error.  Valdes (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) was credited with the game-winning run.

John Jay made it a 3-2 game in the fourth off Jessica Zaccari's run-scoring single.

Jacqueline Perno's RBI single scored Protasiewicz to double Old Westbury's advantage (4-2) in the fourth.

Amanda Fucci (2-for-2, 2 RBI, R, 2 BB) then unloaded a two-run double to make it a 6-2 game in the fifth.  Protasiewicz closed out her four-year career by scoring Old Westbury's final run of the 2015 season after advancing home off Brittany Chernoff's foul out for the 7-2 final.

Fucci (4-12, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K) also fired five strikeouts to claim Old Westbury's complete-game victory as McKenna (3-10, 6 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) was saddled with John Jay's loss.  Zaccari (2-for-2, RBI) and Jocelyn Ocasio (2-for-3) each contributed multi-hit games for the Bloodhounds.
