Stanley nets double-double to lead @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball past Sarah Lawrence

Jamail Stanley’s fourth-straight double-double improved Old Westbury to 11-2 in the Skyline Conference standings with Saturday’s home win

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball opened Saturday's home game with a commanding 21-1 lead en route to securing the 79-57 Skyline Conference victory over the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons inside Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (12-6) improves to 11-2 in the conference standings while sending Sarah Lawrence (4-16) to 1-14.

After jumping out to a 20-point lead (21-1) 5:59 into play, P.J. Page sank two of his 11 first-half points to push Old Westbury's advantage to 21 points (23-2) with 12:56 remaining.  Sarah Lawrence answered with a 16-4 run from 11:56 to 1:53 to make it a nine-point game (27-18).  The Panthers settled for a 30-20 lead at the half following Graham Gilleran's pair of made free throws. 

Jamail Stanley's layup with 12:45 left tallied two of his 14 second-half points to build Old Westbury's lead back up to 20 points (51-31).  Old Westbury held a 20-point lead for the remaining 12:45 of play, and stretched its advantage to 30 points (73-43) off Lylle Ryals' three pointer with 4:33 showing on the clock. 

Page and Stanley each finished with 21 points to lead all scorers.  Stanley added 11 points to his 9-of-15 shooting performance, in addition nabbing a career-high six steals for his fourth-straight double-double (eighth of season).  Page knocked down 4-of-9 from three-point range and Stephon Odle followed with 13 points (3-of-5 3FG) and four assists.  Kaleem Edwards chipped in with a game-high five assists. 

Parker Hagmaier racked up 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to pace the Gryphons.  Austin Jones contributed 11 points and two steals off the bench. 

Old Westbury shot 48.4 percent (31-of-64 FG) from the field, 39.1 percent (9-of-23 3FG) from three-point territory and 53.3 percent (8-of-15 FT) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Sarah Lawrence landed 36.2 percent (21-of-58 FG) from the floor, 16 percent (4-of-25 3FG) from beyond the arc and 68.8 percent (11-of-16 FT) from the charity stripe.  The Gryphons won the boards battle, 39-35, scoring six second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in steals (11-3), blocks (3-1), assists (17-7), points in the paint (34-30) and fast-break points (20-7) while converting 22 Gryphon turnovers into 19 points.    


ST. JOSEPH'S (L.I.) GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Wednesday (Feb. 3) to take on the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles in Skyline Conference action at 8 p.m. in Patchogue, New York.  Old Westbury will look to complete the series sweep of the Golden Eagles after claiming a 76-64 home victory (Box Score) on November 24.
