@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer tangles with Western Connecticut at home

Old Westbury closed out its non-conference home schedule Tuesday afternoon

Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer (4-7-1) dropped a 7-0 decision Tuesday afternoon to the Western Connecticut State University Colonials (9-4-2) to close out its non-conference home schedule inside Panther Park.

Western Connecticut jumped ahead early with what proved to be the game-winning goal by Autumn Sorice in the eighth minute.  The Colonials then doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute as Allison Oakley misfired on back-to-back attempts before putting away her own rebound past Panther goalie Jessica Tuckruskye.  In the 25th minute, Andrea DeVoe found Bailey Julian at the top of box to send a 3-0 game into intermission.  Mayra Bonilla attempted Old Westbury's lone first-half shot at 36:42.

Sorice pushed assists to Paige Martin (50:42) and Stacey Weinberg (52:18) to open the second-half scoring before netting her second goal of the game in the 54th minute to extend the lead to six.  Jenna Gentile scored in the 60th minute to settle the 7-0 final.  Old Westbury saw its best scoring chance slip by in the 72nd minute as Melissa Outsen's penalty shot was turned away by goalie Serena Gunter.

Tuckruskye (1-4-0) made five saves in 26 minutes of first-half action prior to Mary Clark taking over to stop six shots in 64 minutes.  Jillian Fernandez (9-4-2) and Gunter combined to make three saves to preserve the Western Connecticut win.

In the end, Western Connecticut held the advantage in shots (29-5), shots on goal (18-3) and corner kicks (7-0).

THE SAGE COLLEGES GATORS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference action Saturday (Oct. 15) on the road against The Sage Colleges Gators at 3:30 p.m.  from Lansingburgh High School in Troy, New York.
