@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball set for home opener after Baruch showdown

Old Westbury will take on Brockport Wednesday afternoon in its home opener

MANHATTAN, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball is set to return home after suffering a 72-46 non-conference setback Tuesday evening to the Baruch College Bearcats (4-0) inside ARC Arena in Manhattan.

Baruch put the game away early with a 15-0 run as Old Westbury (0-2) misfired on its opening 17 attempts from the field until Shane Smith knocked down a jumper with 11:05 remaining in the half.  Jamail Stanley found Smith for a layup with 3:48 to spark an 8-2 run.  Bradley Eugene later capped the run with a jumper to slice the Panthers' deficit to nine (29-20) with 1:40 remaining.  Baruch scored seven of the next 10 points to take a 36-23 lead into the break.

The Bearcats played the final 9:23 with a 20-point lead as Chimaechi Ekekeughbor's triple gave Baruch a 56-35 advantage.  The lead swelled to as many as 32 (71-39) with 2:32 showing on the second-half clock.

Stanley totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds to register his 14th double-double in 27 career games as a Panther.  Stanley added three steals, two blocks and two assists while Eugene ripped down a career-high 13 boards to go along with two blocks.  Terrin Roland went for nine points off the bench.

Ekekeughbor finished with a game-high 28 points (11-of-21 FG) in addition to grabbing 12 rebounds to pace Baruch.  Doyin Isaac dished out eight assists to go along with nine rebounds.

Old Westbury connected on 25.8 percent (17-of-66 FG) from the field, 5.0 percent (1-of-20 3FG) from three-point territory and 47.8 percent (11-of-23 FT) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Baruch hit on 37.1 percent (23-of-62 FG) from the floor, 33.3 percent (7-of-21 3FG) from beyond the arc and 61.3 (19-of-31 FT) from the charity stripe.  The Bearcats won the boards battle, 54-48, while scoring 10 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (5-4) and steals (8-5).

THE COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will host The College at Brockport Golden Eagles (3-0) in its home opener Wednesday (Nov. 23) at 4 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
