@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball stays hot with Skyline opening win

Old Westbury improved its season’s record to 4-0 with Thursday’s 69-54 win at Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball opened Skyline Conference play Thursday evening with a convincing 69-54 road win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (1-4, 0-1 Skyline) inside Peter Jay Sharp Center.
 
In a first quarter that featured four lead changes, Old Westbury (4-0, 1-0 Skyline) trailed 13-9 before using a 12-0 run from 4:21 to 1:09 to grab a 21-13 advantage.  Charlotte Renker sank a pair of free-throws to extend the Panthers' lead to 11 (31-20) with 6:29 remaining in the second period. With 2:19 left, Jasmine Robinson scored three of her 17 first-half points to cap a 19-2 Panther run to extend the lead to a game-high 21 points (42-21) before taking a 44-25 advantage into the break. 

Mount Saint Vincent opened the second half with a 12-2 spurt as part of a 25-5 run to hold a brief 50-49 lead.  Tori Bellings connected on a 3-pointer with six seconds left to put the Panthers back up by three (52-50) heading into the fourth quarter.  Old Westbury's 9-0 run helped grow the lead to 11 (61-50) during the opening 4:58 of play in the fourth period.  The Panthers scored eight of the game's final 10 points to secure the 15-point win. 

Robinson poured in a season-high 28 points (10-of-20 FG, 4-of-10 3FG) to lead all scorers while adding five steals, four assists and four rebounds to her statline.   Ruth Vargas went for 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.  Charlotte Renker followed with 10 points, nine rebounds and one block as Monique Joseph tied a season-high by pulling down 12 boards.  Bellings scored nine points and tied a career-high with seven assists.

Christina Barone's 17 points paced Mount Saint Vincent.  Ryan Doherty knocked down 4-of-7 from long distance to score 12 points. 
  
In the end, Old Westbury connected on 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field, 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Vincent hit on 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the floor, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 48-29, while scoring 14 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds. The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (10-8) and blocks (3-0) while scoring 27 points off 22 turnovers.

THE SAGE COLLEGES GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Saturday (Dec. 3) to Albany, New York for a rematch of the 2016 Skyline Conference Championship game against The Sage Colleges Gators (2-4, 0-1 Skyline) at 12 p.m. inside Kahl Gymnasium.
