@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball coasts past Yeshiva to move into Saturday’s Skyline Conference Championship game

No. 1 Old Westbury will host No. 6 St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) in Saturday’s championship game at 1 p.m.

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship semifinal game in nine of the last 13 seasons.  Thursday evening, the top-seeded Panthers (18-8) moved into Saturday's championship game with an 82-60 victory over the No. 4 Yeshiva Maccabees (15-12) inside Clark Athletic Center. 

Old Westbury will play host to the No. 6 St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears (15-12) at 1 p.m.  Both teams split the regular-season series, with the home team claiming victory in each meeting.  St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) won the opener on December 2, 81-63 (Box Score), and Old Westbury closed on January 12 with a 69-66 win (Box Score).  

Yeshiva took their largest lead of the game by jumping ahead 4-0 in the opening minute.  Down by three, Old Westbury put together a 12-4 run from 13:42 to 8:16 to take a 19-14 lead.  Moments later, P.J. Page's jumper extended the Panther lead to eight (25-17) before taking a 35-25 lead into the half.    

Stephon Odle's 3-pointer 22 seconds into second-half play ignited a 16-2 run to go up by 24 points (51-27) with 14:41 remaining.  Yeshiva answered with a 12-2 spurt to pull within 14 points (53-39) at 12:10.  Old Westbury later used a 19-8 run to extend its lead to a game-high 26 points (82-56) with 1:13 remaining to secure a spot in the championship game for the third time in 10 years. 

Jamail Stanley registered game highs of 30 points (11-of-18 FG) and 13 rebounds to go along with three blocks, three steals and three assists for his 13th double-double of the season.  Luckens Victor and Keith Lackerson each followed with 12 points.  Page finished with 11 points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals while Lylle Ryals added nine points off the bench.

Shaje Weiss and Shelby Rosenberg paced Yeshiva with 13 points apiece. 

Old Westbury hit on 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from 3-point territory and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) at the free-throw line.  By comparison, Yeshiva shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the floor, 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from beyond the arc and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) at the charity stripe.
