Old Westbury records its eighth-straight victory with Wednesday’s Skyline Conference road win

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball led by as many as 37 points in Wednesday's 77-43 Skyline Conference road win over the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles inside Danzi Center.  Winners of eight straight, Old Westbury (17-3) improves to 10-1 in conference play while sending the Golden Eagles (6-14) to 3-8. 

Jasmine Robinson's layup broke the scoring ice as Old Westbury got off to a hot start with a 10-1 run over the first 3:47.  Bridgid McNeill scored eight of the Panthers' opening 14 points to give Old Westbury its first double-digit lead of the game (14-3) with 4:59 remaining in the first period.  Monique Joseph's layup sent Old Westbury into the second quarter with a 21-8 lead.

Robinson came away with her lone first-half steal before finishing with a layup to extend Old Westbury's lead to 20 points (33-13) with 5:35 left.  With 2:01 remaining, Joseph's layup stretched Old Westbury's advantage to 23 points (40-17).  Old Westbury took a 44-22 lead into intermission. 

Old Westbury's lead grew to 25 points in the third when Kendra Jordan found Joseph in the paint to make it a 52-27 game.  Andrea Iavarone trimmed the deficit to 18 points (52-34) with 37 remaining for the Golden Eagles heading into the final stanza.    

Tori Bellings' three-point play capped a 19-2 Panther run over the opening six minutes of play in the fourth to build the lead to 35 points (71-36).  Moments later, Pentz connected on a three pointer to push Old Westbury's advantage to a game-high 37 points (77-40) with 50 seconds remaining.   

Robinson poured in a game-high 20 points (10-of-20 FG) to go along with three steals to pace the Panthers.  Pentz contributed 10 points (4-of-7 FG) and 10 assists to record her sixth-career double-double.  McNeill (6-of-8 FG) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Off the bench, Joseph chipped in with 12 points as Jordan totaled six assists.    

Iavarone led the Golden Eagles with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Caroline Gehring nabbed a game-high five steals while Rynese Smith followed with four. 

Old Westbury shot 47.9 percent (35-of-73 FG) from the field, 22.2 percent (2-of-9 3FG) from three-point range and 55.6 percent (5-of-9 FT) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, the Golden Eagles hit on 27.4 percent (17-of-62 FG) from the floor, 21.4 percent (3-of-14 3FG) from beyond the arc and 52.9 percent (6-of-14 FT) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 51-37, scoring 17 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers tallied a season high with 26 assists while scoring 30 points off 24 Golden Eagle turnovers.  Old Westbury also held the advantage in points in the paint (62-26) and fast-break points (18-6). 

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Feb. 6) to take on the Purchase Panthers in Skyline Conference action at 2 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury will look to complete the series sweep of the Panthers after claiming a 82-57 road victory (Box Score) on January 16.
