@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse charge past Sage for Skyline opening win

Old Westbury set a program-record with 10 assists in Saturday’s 16-5 triumph

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)  SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse opened Skyline Conference at home Saturday with a 16-5 win over the Sage Gators (3-4, 0-1 Skyline) on Autism Awareness Day from Panther Park. 

Natasha Treuman led Old Westbury (3-5, 1-0 Skyline) with seven goals on nine shots to go along with two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.  Danielle Weir, Courtney Gallagher, Sara Bey, Danielle Weir and Taylor Guarneri each followed with two goals.  Gallagher and Halle Johnson both tied a program record with four assists while LaChaye Allen and Gabriella DiPierno contributed to Old Westbury's program-best 10-assist day.  Gallagher also added four draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers to her statline while Weir chipped in with three draw controls.  Ashley Gugliuzzo (3-5) stopped six shots while scooping four ground balls and causing two turnovers to collect Old Westbury's win. 

Gallagher found DiPierno 1:42 in for the game's initial goal to ignite Old Westbury's 5-0 run.  Nikkie Pedone put the Gators on the board at 22:30 before Gallagher finished Johnson's pass with 21:07 left in the opening half for the game-winning goal (third career).  Treuman scored five first-half goals from 26:17 to 13:25 as Guarneri and Bey closed out the scoring to send Old Westbury into the half with a 12-1 lead. 

Bey answered Martine Ianniello's goal to open second-half play at 18:41.  Monica Koralus sparked a 3-0 Gator run at 17:07 to make it a 13-5 game.  Gallagher scored with 4:46 remaining and Treuman added two more goals to settle the 16-5 final.     

Jackie St. Pierre (3-4) made eight saves in defeat for Sage.  Michaela DeRuzzio registered a game-high seven ground balls to go with four caused turnovers and a goal with 9:02 remaining to make it a 13-4 game.

STOCKTON OSPREYS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Wednesday (Apr. 6) to clash with the Stockton Ospreys in non-conference action at 3 p.m. from Panther Park.
