@OW_Panthers Baseball collects Skyline road sweep of St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

Old Westbury moved to 6-0 in the Skyline Conference standings with Saturday’s road wins

BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball (17-9, 6-0 Skyline) collected 6-3 and 8-1 Skyline Conference road wins against the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears (10-13, 1-3 Skyline) Saturday in rainy conditions at Padavan-Preller Field in Bellerose, New York. 
 
Game 1: Old Westbury 6, St. Joseph's 3
St. Joseph's broke the scoring ice in the second inning on a RBI single by Anthony Camerada to score Nicholas LoPrinzi (3-for-5, RBI, R, 2B) for the game's initial run. 

Old Westbury answered in the third with Paul Rapoli (3-for-4, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) scoring on Tommy Ziegen's game-tying RBI single off Bear starter Brian Luebcke (3-1, 8 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).  Joey Walsh advanced home as Ziegen was caught stealing second for a 2-1 lead.

LoPrinzi replied in the fourth with a RBI single off Panther starter Jeremy Charles (3-2, 5 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 K) to tie the game.

Rapoli led off the fifth with a solo home run (first career) to put the Panthers ahead 3-2. 

The Bears matched Old Westbury in the bottom of the frame with Adam Schwartz's run-scoring single to push John Condon across after a fielding error by Rapoli in right field.

Old Westbury took control of the game in the sixth with Joe Boscia's sacrifice fly that scored Kevin Lao for the game-winning run.  Rapoli followed with a double to score Michael Cardino and Luis Sileno to settle the scoring.

Reliever Nick Dorcean (5 K, BB) took over for Charles and scattered three hits in four innings of shutout ball to record his second career save. 

Game 2: Old Westbury 8, St. Joseph's 1 (5 Inn.)
Old Westbury took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Bear starter Rosario DiLorenzo (3-4, 5 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and never looked back.  Dean Sheridan (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB) reached on a fielder's choice to score Jesse Russo (3-for-4, 2 RBI, SB).  Two batters later, Cardino (1-for-2, 2 RBI) singled home Walsh (1-for-3, R, SB) for the game-winning run. 

The Panthers went up by four in the third with Sheridan's RBI and Cardino's run-scoring sacrifice fly.  Old Westbury scored two runs in the fourth before St. Joseph's used a sacrifice fly by Camerada to score its lone run.  

Old Westbury tacked on two more runs in the fifth frame to close out the scoring.

Daniel Aguilo (5 IP, 3 H, R, 4 BB, 6 K) won his fifth-straight start to improve to 5-1 on the season. 


VASSAR BREWERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road for Wednesday's (Apr. 13) non-conference showdown agaisnt the Vassar Brewers Poughkeepsie, New York.  First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from Prentiss Field.
