OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball dropped its home opener in three sets (25-9, 25-22, 25-20) Tuesday evening to the City College of New York Beavers (1-1) inside Clark Athletic Center.
Despite losing in three sets, Old Westbury (0-3) improved on its hitting throughout the match to finish with a .092 attacking percentage while CCNY hit .178.
Sofia Goris led Old Westbury with a season-best five aces to go along with 10 digs and seven assists.
Ruth Vargas followed with nine digs while pacing the Panthers by hitting at a .400 clip with eight kills in 20 swings.
Kemari Best added five assists as
Marie McKenzie totaled two solo blocks and one block assist.
Angela Ubanwa nailed down a match high 17 kills to hit .625 on the evening for CCNY. Brigitte Bozer served five aces while Ubanwa followed with four as the Beavers held a 15-6 ace advantage.
SUFFOLK COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SHARKS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury hits the road for seven-striaght contests starting Thursday (Sept. 8) in Selden, New York against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks at 6 p.m.
