Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball closed out its non-conference schedule Tuesday evening with a convincing 73-39 win over the visiting Medgar Evers College Cougars (1-15) inside Clark Athletic Center.

Old Westbury (12-3) jumped ahead early and never looked book as Charlotte Renker laid-in six of the team's opening nine points as part of a 9-1 run to start the game.  Ruth Vargas' layup with 3:13 left in the first quarter gave the Panthers their first double-digit lead of the game (13-3).  Brigid McNeill then extended the lead to 12 with a layup 51 seconds later before the Cougars scored five-unanswered points to close out the period trailing 15-8.  Jasmine Robinson opened the second quarter with a triple to spark a 15-2 Panther run that made it a 20-point game (30-10).  Old Westbury netted 23 points off 19 first-half turnovers to take a 41-17 lead into intermission.

The Panthers used a 14-2 run to open third-quarter play to take a 36-point lead (55-19) with 5:39 left in the stanza.  McNeill's layup with 1:51 showing on the third-quarter clock helped Old Westbury's grow its lead to a game-high 36 points (59-23).  Both teams scored 14 fourth-quarter points to settle the 73-39 final.

Renker led all scorers with 17 points (8-of-9 FG) to go with eight rebounds and three steals.  Robinson registered 13 points and three steals while Monique Joseph chipped in 10 points (4-of-8 FG), three assists and two steals.  Vargas nabbed four steals and Davida Warren grabbed seven rebounds (career-high six offensive).  Tori Bellings ran the offense with a game and career-high nine assists to go along with two steals.
Elesha Dieudonne paced Medgar Evers with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.  Janaisha Carrington added four steals while Chanelle Perry grabbed eight rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 40.5 percent (32-of-79) from the field, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from 3-point range and 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Medgar Evers hit on 25.9 percent (14-of-54) from the floor, 33.3 percent (1-of-3) from beyond the arc and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 56-37, scoring 17 second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (18-12), blocks (6-2) and assists (22-7) while scoring 33 points off 33 Cougar turnovers.
