Stanley's double-double lifts @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball past Mount Saint Mary, 83-76

Jamail Stanley totaled 27 points and 14 rebounds to produce his 23rd career double-double

NEWBURGH, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball collected a 83-76 Skyline Conference road victory Saturday afternoon over the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (9-6, 4-3 Skyline) inside Kaplan Center.

In the opening 16 seconds of the game, Stephon Odle knocked down a triple to give Old Westbury (8-7, 5-2 Skyline) the early lead.  Gerard Nocera sank a pair of free-throws to start an 8-2 Mount Saint Mary run to give the hosts a three-point lead (8-5) with 18:05 showing on the first-half clock.  Both teams battled for the lead over the next couple of minutes before Bradley Eugene's tip-in with 11:22 remaining gave the Panthers the lead (22-20) for the remainder of the half as part of an 8-0 run (12:25-10:39).  Trailing 25-20, the Knights scored 12 of the game's next 20 points over the next 6:19 to trim the deficit to one (33-32).  Old Westbury closed out the final 4:11 with an 11-3 run ignited by a pair of free-throws courtesy of Odle to head into the break with a 44-35 lead.

Old Westbury's lead reached double-digits off a jumper by Lylle Ryals with 15:29 left in the second half to make it a 55-45 game.  With 11:42 remaining, Jamail Stanley connected from deep to score three of his 18 second-half points to push Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 12 points (64-52).  Moments later, Odle landed a 3-ball to bring the lead back to 12 (67-55) with 9:58 remaining.  Mount Saint Mary held a short-lived lead (70-69) with 4:33 showing on the second-half clock as Jovin Ramos' 3-pointer capped the Knights' 15-2 run.  The Panthers regained the lead for good with 4:05 left as Terrin Roland's 3-pointer sparked a 10-1 run to make it a 72-70 game.  Stanley helped secure the win by converting a pair of free-throws with 35 seconds left to stretch Old Westbury's lead to eight (81-73).

Stanley led the way with game-highs of 27 points (11-of-16 FG, 2-of-4 3FG), 14 rebounds (five offensive), six assists and five blocks to record his 23rd career double-double (10th of the season).  Preston Powell set a career-highs for points (21) and made 3-pointers (5-of-10) to go along with two steals.  Ryals contributed 11 points while Odle added nine points, five assists and two steals.

Nocera finished with 16 points (4-of-13 FG), nine rebounds and two steals to pace Mount Saint Mary.  Ramos scored 14 points (5-of-10 FG) while Connor Nicholson chipped in with 11 (3-of-6 FG).  Owen Heath (4-of-6 FG) and Connor Bacci (3-of-5 3FG) poured in 10 points apiece.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the field, 40.5 percent (15-of-37) from 3-point range and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Mary hit on 45 percent (27-of-60) from the floor, 35 percent (7-of-20) from beyond the arc and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 38-34, scoring 15 second-chance points off 11 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (6-5), blocks (5-1) and assists (18-12) while scoring 13 points off 14 Knight turnovers.
