Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball knocked down a season-best 16 3-pointers Wednesday evening to come away with an 80-57 Skyline Conference victory over the visiting United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (5-12, 2-7 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.

Old Westbury (10-7, 6-2 Skyline) took a 9-5 lead 2:35 in after connecting on its first-three attempts from downtown.  Moments later, Matt Miller scored two of his 18 first-half points to give the Mariners the lead (17-16) for the final 13:21 of the opening stanza.  Miller later sank a pair of free-throws to spark a 10-0 run to give USMMA a 33-22 advantage with 5:19 remaining.  Preston Powell drilled back-to-back 3-pointers down the stretch to help trim the Panthers' deficit to seven (35-28) at intermission.

The Panthers used a 10-0 spurt to open the second half to grab a 38-35 lead.  After falling behind by two (40-38), Old Westbury scored five-unanswered points as Lylle Ryals' 3-pointer with 15:51 gave the Panthers the lead for good, 43-40.  Ryals then converted a pair of free-throws to kick-start a 25-3 run from 9:21 to 1:44 to extend Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 25 points (77-52).

Powell (career-high 6-of-12 3FG) and Ryals (tied career-high with 6-of-13 3FG) both poured in 20 points to pace the Panthers to victory.  Stanley followed with 19 points, 12 rebounds (six offensive), four steals, three blocks and three assists to register his 12th double-double of the season (25th career).  Stephon Odle added 10 points, seven assists (career-high), seven rebounds and two steals while Luckens Victor added two blocks.

Miller finished with a game-high 24 points (7-of-7 FT) to lead USMMA.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field, 38.1 percent (16-of-42) from 3-point range and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, USMMA hit on 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor, 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 43-31, scoring 19 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in steals (7-3), blocks (7-2) and assists (18-7) while scoring 24 points off 17 Mariners turnovers.
