Skyline Conference Championship Central

THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer took an early lead and never looked back Saturday evening to earn a 3-0 Skyline Conference Championship first-round road win over the No. 4 SUNY Maritime Privateers (11-5-2) from Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, New York.  No. 5 Old Westbury (10-5-3) advances to Wednesday's Skyline Conference semifinal at top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College (10-7-0) at 7 p.m. from Kaplan Field in Newburgh, New York.  Old Westbury and Mount Saint Mary previously met on October 7, with Old Westbury claiming the 2-1 double overtime home win (Box Score).

The Panthers grabbed the early lead as Jorey Garcia wasted little time dishing out his team-leading sixth assist of the season to Nikolas Sgaraglio 2:11 in for the one-goal cushion.  Sgaraglio's game-winning goal was his second of the season.  Garcia also landed a shot on goal in the 23rd minute as Old Westbury headed into intermission with the lead and a 5-3 shot advantage.

Stephen Locurcio marched up the field in the 50th minute to find Garcia for a breakaway goal to double Old Westbury's advantage on Privateer goalie Michael Rodriguez (11-5-2).  Garcia's goal was his team-leading 16th of the season.  Edens Avril tacked on an insurance goal by finishing a run from Mike Rodrigues in the 80th minute to settle the 3-0 final.

Old Westbury netminder Mike Warren (10-5-3) went untested to register his fourth shutout of the season (ninth of career).  Rodriguez finished with two stops in defeat for Maritime.

In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (13-5) and shots on target (5-0) while Maritime finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
