@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball remains hot with 94-71 win at Farmingdale State

Old Westbury closes out its five-game road trip Saturday (Dec. 2) with a Skyline Conference matchup against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball continued play on the road Thursday evening with a 94-71 Skyline Conference win over the Farmingdale State College Rams (2-5, 1-1 Skyline) inside Walter A. Lynch Sports Center in Farmingdale, New York.  Old Westbury (4-0, 2-0 Skyline) has now won four-straight games to start the year in back-to-back seasons.

Despite five turnovers in the opening 1:52 of play, Old Westbury allowed just two shot attempts before Alexis Antonacci's layup broke the scoring ice to give Farmingdale State the lead with 8:02 left in the first quarter.  Trailing by as many as four points (9-5), the Panthers used a 12-4 run to go up 17-13 off a pair of Destiny Marino free throws with 1:56 left.  Old Westbury maintained the four-point lead (23-19) at the end of one quarter of play.  Alexis Lopez's three pointer helped stretch Old Westbury's advantage to eight (27-19) with 7:58 remaining in the half.  Farmingdale State chipped away for the remainder of the period to take a 42-41 lead into intermission with a 10-4 spurt to close out the final 1:46.

Old Westbury grabbed the lead for good 22 seconds into third-quarter action off a pair of Charlotte Renker free throws to make it a 43-42 game.  The Panthers later went up by nine (59-50) with Renker scoring four of Old Westbury's eight points during an 8-0 spurt.  With 3:13 showing on the third-quarter clock, Old Westbury's lead grew to double-digits with a Tyra Bellings free throw.  Old Westbury carried a double-digit lead for the final 5:20 due in part to a 19-4 run to close out the game sparked by Tyra Bellings' three pointer.

Renker used 22 points (7-of-15 FG) and 20 rebounds to go along with two steals and a block to register her second double-double of the season (13th-career).  Marino followed with 18 points (6-of-8 FG).  Tyra Bellings and Lopez came off the bench to score 14 and 11 points, respectively.  Monique Joseph totaled 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Tori Bellings dished out a game-high eight assists

Antonacci finished with a game-high 32 points (6-of-11 3FG, 12-of-13 FT) to lead Farmingdale State.  Khandra Rhoden nabbed five steals as Kaelyn Ward and Essence Casey scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field, 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from 3-point range and 58.5 percent (31-of-53) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Farmingdale State hit on 26.9 percent (18-of-67) from the floor, 25 percent (9-of-36) from beyond the arc and 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury dominated in assists (19-7), fastbreak points (12-6), points in the paint (50-16), bench points (36-13) and scored 19 points off 21 Ram turnovers.
