Old Westbury remains on the road Tuesday (Dec. 12) for a non-conference showdown against College of New Rochelle

MANHATTAN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dominated play in the second and fourth quarters Saturday afternoon to improve to 7-0 on the season with a 55-53 non-conference road win over the Baruch College Bearcats (1-4) inside ARC Arena in Manhattan.  Old Westbury is off to its best start since opening 5-0 during the 2009-10 campaign.

After a series of lead changes to start the game, Baruch used a 17-2 run to close out the final 5:39 of first-quarter play.  Trailing by 14 (20-6) at the start of the second quarter, Old Westbury quickly chopped its deficit to single digits 1:46 in (20-10).  A three-point play by Tori Bellings with 1:49 left put Old Westbury ahead, 24-22.  Alexis Lopez's triple with 18 seconds remaining helped stretch Old Westbury's lead to a seven (29-22) to close out a 21-2 spurt.  Daniella Arias' 3-pointer as time expired sliced Old Westbury's advantage to four (29-25) heading into intermission.

Baruch outscored Old Westbury by nine (20-11) in the third period and played with the lead for a consecutive stretch of 11:41 in the second half.  Following a pair of made free throws by Shannon Barrett that give Baruch a 53-52 lead with 1:08 showing on the fourth-quarter clock, Bellings answered the call by draining the game-winning 3-pointer with 57 left to secure Old Westbury's 55-53 win.

Monique Joseph finished with 17 points (7-of-13 FG), 11 rebounds (tied career-high w/eight offensive) and a game-high eight steals to record her fourth double-double of the season (10th-career) to pace Old Westbury.  Tori Bellings scored a season-high 14 points (5-of-8 FG, 2-of-2 3FG) and dished out four assists.  Charlotte Renker (game-high 17 rebounds), Destiny Marino (11 rebounds) and Bridgid McNeill (10 rebounds, (seven offensive) accounted for 38 of Old Westbury's 61 rebounds.

Barrett produced a game-high 21 points (4-of-4 3FG, 9-of-10 FT) to go with seven rebounds and two blocks in leading Baruch.  Arias chipped in with 15 points, seven assists (game-high) and five steals while Melinda Spahiu scored 10 points and totaled five assists.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 33.8 percent (23-of-68) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from 3-point range and 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Baruch hit on 29.6 percent (16-of-54) from the floor, 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 61-31, while scoring 19 second-chance points off 28 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers converted 19 Bearcat turnovers into 20 points.  Both teams were even in blocks at two apiece, while Old Westbury finished with the advantage in assists (13-12), steals (11-10), points in the paint (32-18), fastbreak points (6-2) and bench points (8-0).
