@OW_Panthers Baseball continues road play at Baruch

Old Westbury returns to action next Saturday (Mar. 4) to start a three-game series with Western New England University

BROOKLYN, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball dropped a 2-1 non-conference road decision Saturday afternoon to the Baruch College Bearcats (1-0) from MCU Park in Brooklyn.  The second game was called in the fifth inning due to heavy fog conditions with Old Westbury leading 2-0.

Baruch jumped ahead in the second inning as two costly throwing errors, with the second coming from shortstop Tommy Ziegen, which allowed Edwin St. Hillaire to score the game's initial run off Panther starter Adam Heidenfelder (0-1, 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, ER, 9 K).

In the fourth inning, Ziegen singled and stole second to set the tone for Dean Sheridan (2-for-3), who tied the game for Old Westbury (1-2) two batters later with a two-out RBI single.

Heidenfelder lost his no-hit bid in the fifth inning, when Ramon Moreta slapped a two-out single to right field to keep the frame alive.  Moreta then stole second and third before Raymond Maurer singled him home for the game-winning run.

Old Westbury threated in the seventh with a pair of one-out singles by Sheridan and Gianni Carbone.  Bearcat reliever Paul Sirakowski (1-0, 5 IP, 6 H, R, 4 K) settled down to retire the next-two batters to lock down the win.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the diamond next Saturday (Mar. 4) to start a three-game series with the Western New England University Golden Bears (0-0) in non-conference action in Yaphank, New York.  First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. inside Baseball Heaven.
