OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball faced the fifth-seeded Mount Saint Mary Knights (13-26) Wednesday afternoon at home in the first-round single elimination game of the Skyline Conference Championship inside Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. No. 4 Old Westbury lost a 4-3 decision to conclude the 2017 season with a 20-16 mark to record their ninth-straight 20-win season.

Mount Saint Mary broke the scoring ice in the third inning off Panther starter Trey Pizzutello (L, 4-5; 8 IP, 4 R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K). John Santana reached on a fielding error by Jesse Matos and later scored off Chris Introcaso's (2-for-5, R, RBI, SB) single through the left side for the Knights early 1-0 lead.

Old Westbury responded with the equalizer in the third inning off Knight starter Blake Keenan (W, 3-4; 9 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K). Matos (1-for-2, R, BB) opened the frame with a single through the left side and two batters later scored off Liam Slattery's (1-for-4, RBI, 2B) two-out double to knot the game at one (1-1).

After a scoreless four innings, Mount Saint Mary tacked on three runs to retake the lead in top half of the eighth to end Pizzutello's outing. Kevin Edgar (2-for-4, 2 RBI) worked a two-out bases loaded to score Introcaso and Michael Doxey for the Knights' 3-1 advantage. Peter Knights (2-for-4, RBI, SB) singled to right field to drive home Vincenzo Pepe and extend Mount Saint Mary's lead to three (4-1). Introcaso singled, Doxey reached on a fielding error by Matos and Pepe walked earlier in the frame.

Panther reliever Ryan Mordecai induced three-straight outs in the ninth inning before Old Westbury used a two-run rally in the bottom half. Dean Sheridan (1-for-4, R) singled to left field and later rounded home after Paul Rapoli (2-for-4, R, RBI 3B) tripled to left center for the Panthers to pull within two (4-2). Rapoli followed by scoring on a wild pitch before Keenan forced Nicholas Balfe to ground out to Nick Rizzo to settle the 4-3 final.
