Old Westbury finished the 2017 season with a program’s best 7-10 record

PATCHOGUE, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse made its second-straight Skyline Conference Championship semifinals appearance Thursday evening on the road in Patchogue, New York.  The third-seeded Panthers fell 14-6 to the second-seeded St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (9-8) to conclude their 2017 campaign with a program's best 7-10 record.  St. Joseph's advances to its fourth-straight championship game and will travel to Farmingdale, New York to play against the host and top-seeded Farmingdale State College Rams Saturday at 12 p.m.

St. Joseph's scored early and often as Diana Johnston finished Nicole Stoppelli's feed in a man-up situation 52 seconds in for the 1-0 lead.  Stoppelli scored with a man-up off Kristin Carroll's assist to double the Golden Eagles' advantage 38 seconds later for the 2-0 lead.  Stoppelli and Brooke Kreuscher were responsible for six of nine unanswered goals over the next 14:30 that extended St. Joseph's lead to a game-high 11 goals (11-0).  Natasha Treuman put Old Westbury on the board with her 45th goal of the season at 10:34 (11-1).  Rachel Phillips found the back of the net at 3:42 for the Panthers to head into intermission trailing by nine (11-2).

Kreuscher opened the second-half scoring by finishing Carroll's game-high fourth assist 4:58 in to push St. Joseph's lead back up to double-digits (12-2).  Danielle Weir responded for Old Westbury with her 21st goal of the season 1:15 later to trim the lead to single-digits (12-3).  Taylor Guarneri buried Sara Bey's feed for the Panthers to pull within eight (12-4) with 17:58 showing on the second-half clock.  Johnston put a goal away past Panther goalie Ashley Gugliuzzo at 14:03 and again at 8:32 for the Golden Eagles to regain the double-digit advantage (14-4).  Old Westbury closed out the scoring after Treuman netted her 46th goal of the season at 4:28 and Phillips found Halle Johnson at 3:23 that settled the 14-6 final.

Treuman finished with two goals, three draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball to pace Old Westbury.  Phillips followed with one goal and one assist while Weir chipped in with one goal and two draw controls.  Gugliuzzo made 10 saves in the defeat.

Stoppelli paced St. Joseph's with four goals, three ground balls, two assists and two ground balls.  Kreushcher contributed with four goals and one ground ball while Johnston scored three goals, controlled four draws and scooped three ground balls. Lindsay Ramos stopped 10 shots to secure the victory.
