@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer opens season at Mount Aloysius

Old Westbury continues road play next Saturday at Staten Island

CRESSON, PA --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer opened the 2017 season on the road with a 3-0 setback to the Mount Aloysius College Mounties (1-0-1) in non-conference action from Ray and Louise Walker Athletic Field Complex in Cresson, Pennsylvania. 

Sam Torrenti found Cheyenne Kuncher in the 11th minute to beat Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (0-1-0) for what proved to be the game-winning goal.  The Mounties doubled their advantage 1:39 later with Katie Mirance's goal assisted by Grace Alsop for the 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

Schell closed out the scoring in the 50th minute by finished a feed from Torrenti to settle the 3-0 final. 

Higgins made seven saves before Mary Clark closed out the final 21:10 by stopping four shots in goal for Old Westbury.  Leanne Cardoso-Basto (1-0-1) went the distance to earn the shutout for Mount Aloysius.

Lucia Mejia and Cara Normile both landed shots on goal for Old Westbury as the Mounties finished with a 25-2 advantage in shots.   Mount Aloysius also held the edge in corner kicks (8-2).      

COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury returns to action next Saturday (Sept. 9) on the road against the College of Staten Island Dolphins at 12 p.m. from CSI Soccer Complex in Staten Island.
