@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer battles St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) in Skyline road matchup

Old Westbury remains on the road Sunday (Oct. 7) to close out its non-conference slate against Lehman College

MANHATTAN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer faced a 1-0 setback Saturday afternoon to the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (6-6-0, 3-2-0 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action from Randall's Island Field 70 in Manhattan.  Old Westbury (3-10-0, 1-4-0 Skyline) now holds a 2-2-0 record against the Bears since 2015.

St. Joseph's applied the pressure on early, firing the game's first six shots (five on goal) through 13 minutes of play.  Brianna Williams then tested Bear goalie Reem Shaban (6-6-0) in the 14th minute to put Old Westbury in the shot column. Deserae Sequeira netted home the loose ball in the box past Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (3-10-0) for game-winning goal in the 43rd minute.  Cara Normile and Shauna Henderson both took shots for the Panthers in the 28th and 32nd minute, respectively, as the Bears upheld the shot advantage 13-3 in the opening stanza.

Old Westbury increased the intensity as Williams and Mary Clark looked for the equalizer in the 49th and 53rd minute of the second half.  St. Joseph's followed with eight shots before Alicia Pirone (84th minute) and Normile (85th minute) fired the game's final two shots for Old Westbury.

Higgins made 11 saves to register her 14th-career double-digit saves total for the Panthers while Shaban stopped six shots to secure the clean sheet.

In the end, St. Joseph's led the way in shots (22-8), shots on goal (12-6) and corner kicks (5-2).  For the second-consecutive game, Normile led Old Westbury's offensive efforts with one of her three shots landing on target.

LEHMAN COLLEGE LIGHTNING UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury closes its non-conference slate on the road Sunday (Oct. 7) at 10 a.m. against the Lehman College Lightning (5-2-1) from South Field in Bronx, New York.  The Panthers hold a 1-1-1 record against the Lightning dating back to 2015.
