WENHAM, MA --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dominated the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels (0-1) Friday evening to claim an 87-62 wire-to-wire season-opening victory at the Gordon College Classic from Wenham, Massachusetts inside Bennett Center. The Panthers (1-0) picked up their fifth-straight season-opening win by defeating New Rochelle on opening night for the second-consecutive year. Old Westbury has also won its last five games versus the Blue Angels by an average margin of 27.8 points dating back to the 2015-16 season.

The Panthers took a 10-point lead (18-8) with 2:05 left in the opening period before Davida Warren's jumper 1:54 into second-quarter play put the Panthers back up by double-digits (23-12) for the remaining 28:06. Tori Bellings connected from three-point land with 2:32 showing on the first-half clock as the Panthers scored 10 of the final 14 points to send a 46-26 game into intermission.

Monique Joseph ignited a Panther run by hitting a jumper with 6:43 remaining in the third quarter to contribute seven points during Old Westbury's 15-3 scoring spree to build a game-high 28-point lead (65-37). New Rochelle put together an 18-7 run over a stretch of 6:30 to pull within 16 (77-61) with 4:12 left. Old Westbury answered with a 10-1 spurt to close out the final 4:01 to settle the 25-point win.

Leading the charge for Old Westbury was Joseph with 19 points (7-of-12 FG) and two steals. Charlotte Renker followed with 18 points (7-of-13 FG) and 11 rebounds while Warren scored 14 to tie her career high and pulled down 11 boards. Bellings dished out six assists and Paige Jelinek grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds off the bench.

Aaliyah Fields' 15 points led New Rochelle. Jayda Watts (14 points) and DarNeisha Brice (10 points) both scored in double-digits.

Old Westbury shot 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range and 76 percent (19-of-25) from the free-throw line while holding the Blue Angels to 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the floor, 45 percent (9-of-20) from deep and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the charity stripe. The Panthers owned a +14 (52-38) rebounding margin while outplaying New Rochelle in steals (9-6), blocks (5-1) and assists (20-12). Old Westbury also scored 20 second-chance points off 21 offensive boards.
