@OW_Panthers Women’s basketball storms past York for fifth-straight win

Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Dec. 1) for a Skyline Conference matchup against St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball remained perfect after opening their home slate Wednesday evening with a convincing 97-38 non-conference victory over the York College (NY) Cardinals (0-4) inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (5-0) are unbeaten through five games for the second-consecutive season while improving to 10-0 against York since the 2005-06 campaign. Prior to opening tip, Old Westbury celebrated its 2018 Skyline Conference Championship team with a ring ceremony followed by the unveiling of their championship banner.

The Panthers took control from the opening jump as Tori Bellings, Monique Joseph and Charlotte Renker each scored four points during a 16-4 run to start the game.  Bellings then dropped in two of her eight first-quarter points with 3:11 left to push the lead to 14 (20-6).  Leading 22-8 entering the second period, Old Westbury went on a 19-5 scoring spree to stretch the advantage to 28 points (43-15) with 2:46 remaining in the half.  York responded with an 8-2 spurt to head into intermission trailing by 22 (45-23).

Old Westbury put the game away with a +28 point scoring advantage (32-4) in the third quarter to build a 50-point lead heading into the final stanza.  The Panthers made 4-of-6 from three-point land while forcing 14 turnovers during the key run. Old Westbury outscored York by nine in the fourth quarter to grow its lead to a game-high 68 points with 3:24 remaining.  

Renker scored a game-high 18 points (9-of-11 FG) to go with seven rebounds and three steals.  Alexis Lopez poured in a career-best 15 points while draining 5-of-9 from triple territory to spark the Panthers off the bench.  Joseph collected 14 points, nine steals, eight rebounds and four assists while Davida Warren totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.  Bellings finished with 13 points and five assists.

Mac-Dege Dessources scored 13 and pulled-down 19 boards to pace York.

Old Westbury shot 41.4 percent (36-of-87) from the field, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from beyond the arc and 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the free-throw line.  York hit 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from the floor), 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from three-point land and 25 percent (2-of-8) from the charity stripe.  The Panthers, who scored 58 points off 46 turnovers, converted 29 offensive rebounds into 24 second-chance points.  Old Westbury owned the advantage in rebounds (53-42), steals (30-3), assists (23-8), points in the paint (52-24), fast-break points (26-5) and bench scoring (33-5).  York finished with a 4-2 edge in blocks.

GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its three-game homestand with a Skyline Conference opener Saturday (Dec. 1) versus the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (1-5, 1-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers are 8-0 against St. Joseph's (L.I.) dating back to the 2014-15 season.
