Balanced offense sends @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball past Lehman

Old Westbury returns to campus Friday (Dec. 14) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus Yeshiva University

BRONX, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball picked up a 98-31 victory Tuesday evening on the road against the Lehman College Lightning (1-7) in non-conference action inside APEX Arena from Bronx.  With the win, the Panthers (8-1) improve to 4-3 against the Lightning dating back to the 2005-06 season.

Old Westbury wasted no time as Tori Bellings assisted on back-to-back Davida Warren layups for a 6-0 lead 2:34 in.  Salima Sangare responded with five points during Lehman's 7-2 spurt to pull within one (8-7) with 6:14 remaining in the first quarter.  The Panthers put together a 14-4 run over the final 6:08 to lead by 11 points (22-11) heading into the second stanza.  Old Westbury was automatic in the second period. The Panthers shot 72.7 percent (8-of-11 FG) from the field while connecting on all three attempts from downtown to take a 43-22 advantage into intermission.

Old Westbury took its intensity to another level on both sides of the floor in the third stanza by outscoring the Lightning 31-2 while forcing eight turnovers.   Adeeba Cheema's layup with 40 seconds remaining accounted for Lehman's lone basket of the quarter. Leading by 50 (74-24) heading into the final period, Old Westbury outscored Lehman by 17 over the remaining 9:04 to grow its lead to a game-high 67 points for the 98-31 final.

Charlotte Renker led the way with 21 points (8-of-9 FG, 5-of-5 FT) and 14 rebounds to register her 34th-career double-double (sixth of season).  Alexis Lopez followed with a career-best 17 points (6-of-8 FG, 5-of-7 3FG). Monique Joseph chipped in 14 points (6-of-8 FG), nine rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.  La'Niya Clark poured in a career-high 12 points (3-of-6 3FG) off the bench. Warren finished with 12 points (5-of-8 FG) while Bellings controlled the offensive by dishing out a personal-best 12 assists.

Lisa Fields totaled 12 points, four rebounds and four assists to pace Lehman.

Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 67.8 percent (40-of-59) from the field, 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from beyond the arc and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the charity stripe.  Lehman was limited to just 19.3 percent (11-of-57) from the field, 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three-point territory and 50 percent (2-of-4) from the free-throw line. The Panthers held a +32 rebound margin (51-19) while scoring 13 second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury outplayed Lehman in assists (26-10), steals (15-2) and bench points (30-0) while scoring 32 points off 23 Lightning turnovers.
