McDonald’s double-double ignites @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball to Skyline win at Maritime

Old Westbury continues Skyline Conference play Saturday (Dec. 8) at Mount Saint Mary College

THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball picked up a Skyline Conference road win Thursday evening with an 83-66 decision against the Maritime College Privateers (2-7, 1-3 Skyline) from Riesenberg Gymnasium in Throggs Neck, New York.  The Panthers (3-2, 2-1 Skyline) are now 15-1 versus Maritime dating back to the 2009-10 season. 

Alan McDonald's layup broke the scoring ice 26 seconds in for Old Westbury's 2-0 advantage.  Maritime took a 3-2 lead 23 seconds later with Brendan McGovern connecting from deep.  After a seesaw battle for the lead, Inderpal Dhaliwal sank three free throws to break a 15-all tie with 12:49 left as Old Westbury outscored Maritime 30-12 over the final 12:49 to head into intermission with a 44-27 edge.
 
Justin Alleyne-Washington scored eight-straight points during Old Westbury's 8-0 run to push the lead to a game-high 20 points (52-32) with 17:24 remaining in the second period.  Maritime put together a 13-4 charge during a stretch of 5:02 to pull within five (69-64) with 3:34 showing on the second-half clock.  Leading 72-66, Old Westbury scored 11-unanswered points to close out the final 1:27 to secure the 17-point win.
 
McDonald led the way with 20 points (9-of-11 FT) and a career-high 16 rebounds to post his third double-double of the season (fourth career).  Alleyne-Washington finished with 20 points (7-of-12 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) and seven rebounds.  Pedro Marquez chipped in 18 points and dished out six assists while Stanley Baker grabbed 12 rebounds.
 
McGovern paced Maritime with 16 points and two steals.  Chris Ruscillo contributed 12 points (5-of-6) and four rebounds off the bench.  Damon Brown and Mike Regan poured in 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Michael Walker pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Old Westbury connected on 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from beyond the arc and 69.4 percent (25-of-36) from the free-throw line.  Maritime finished the evening shooting 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field, 25.8 (8-of-31) from three-point territory, and 47.6 (10-of-21) from the charity stripe.  The Panthers held a +29 rebound margin (56-27) while scoring 15 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  Maritime outplayed Old Westbury in assists (15-7), steals (10-3), blocks (3-0) and points in the paint (28-26) while scoring 17 points off 18 Panther miscues.  Old Westbury held the edge in fastbreak points (26-15) and bench points (16-14).

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE (NY) KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its Skyline Conference road schedule Saturday (Dec. 8) at 3 p.m. against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (3-1, 1-1 Skyline) inside Kaplan Center from Newburgh, New York.  The Panthers are 3-1 on the road versus the Knights since the 2015-16 campaign.
