Old Westbury closes out its regular-season road schedule Tuesday (Feb. 13) in Skyline Conference action against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

RIVERDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball captured a 59-53 Skyline Conference road win to split the season series with the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (15-8, 13-5 Skyline) Saturday afternoon from Peter Jay Sharp Center in Riverdale, New York.  Old Westbury has won the previous three road matchups over the Dolphins dating back to the 2015-16 season.

Mount Saint Vincent opened up the game strong by hitting a trio of 3-pointers to grab a 9-0 lead 4:43 in.  Terrin Roland's layup broke the scoring ice for Old Westbury to cut the Panthers' deficit to seven (9-2) with 13:46 left on the first-half clock.  The layup kickstarted a 12-4 run that featured two treys by Preston Powell and was capped off by a pair of Alan McDonald free throws to bring the Panthers within one (13-12) with 9:47 remaining in the opening half.  Mount Saint Vincent scored six-straight points during a stretch of 1:32 to lead by seven (19-12) with 7:16 to play in the first stanza.  The Panthers battled back to close out the half with a 10-2 run propelled by jumpers by Brandon Thomson and Khalil Wilson.  Alan McDonald's free throw capped off the run with 38 seconds left to give Old Westbury its first advantage of the game (22-21) to lead by one at the break.

After both teams traded buckets to start the second half, Old Westbury put their foot on the gas as McDonald's layup at 13:26 sparked a 19-2 scoring tear.  Roland and Powell dropped in a pair of layups along with 3-pointers hit by David Rodriguez and McDonald.  The offensive barrage concluded on a Michael Samuel free throw with 6:08 remaining to push the Panthers' lead to 17 (53-36), their largest lead of the contest.  The Dolphins fought back with a 15-2 run to reduce the Panther lead to four (55-51) with 22 seconds left.  Thomson would then hit four-consecutive free throws in the final 17 seconds to lock in Old Westbury's 59-53 road win.

Powell scored 12 of his game-high 21 points (8-of-11 FG, 5-of-6 3FG) in the second half to lead Old Westbury.  Roland followed with 11 points, five rebounds and five steals (tied career-high).  McDonald chipped in with 10 points while Yancy Ulysse grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Andrew Curiel finished with 14 points (7-of-13 FG) and seven rebounds to pace Mount Saint Vincent while Jason Barrera contributed 11 points off the bench.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the floor, 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from beyond the arc and 60 percent (12-of-20) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Mount Saint Vincent connected on 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from 3-point range and sank all six attempts from the free-throw line.  Mount Saint Vincent won the boards battle, 45-35, while scoring nine second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury scored 22 points off 20 Dolphin turnovers and held the edge in bench scoring (24-19).  Mount Saint Vincent outplayed Old Westbury in assists (11-7), points in the paint (26-20), fastbreak points (2-0) and blocks (3-2).  Each team had eight steals apiece.
