Three double-digit scorers lead @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball in season finale at Mount Saint Vincent

Old Westbury concluded its season in the 2018 Skyline Conference Championship first-round

RIVERDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) No. 6 SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball ended their 2017-18 season Tuesday evening with a 89-64 first-round setback to the third-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (16-10) in Skyline Conference Championship road action inside Peter Jay Sharp Center.  

The Panthers (12-14) had won their previous three games at Mount Saint Vincent dating back to the 2015-16 season.  The loss ended Old Westbury's stretch of five-straight trips to conference semifinals.

Old Westbury held the lead for the opening 3:41 of play but were unable to push the advantage past three.  The Dolphins took the lead with 14:56 left off a Raquis Harris jumper to pull ahead, 11-10.  Moments later, Old Westbury tied the game at 22 off Preston Powell's three-point play with 9:25 remaining in the half.  Mount Saint Vincent counted with an 11-3 run from 8:53 to 5:06 to build an eight-point cushion as 3-pointers from Ryan Fraser and Ammad Alkhulaidi keyed the spurt.  Following a pair of Terrin Roland made free throws that sliced Old Westbury's deficit to six (33-27), the Dolphins scored nine-straight points to go up by 15 points with 1:08 left.  Old Westbury played from behind for the final 14:56 to trail 44-31 at intermission.  

Mount Saint Vincent picked up right where it left off by scoring seven-unanswered points to take a 20-point lead (51-31) 3:32 into second-half play.  Powell drilled a 3-pointer to stop the run before the Dolphins netted seven-straight points to stretch the construct a 24-point advantage (58-34).  Powell scored four of Old Westbury's next eight points to make it an 18-point game (60-42) with 9:51 showing on the second-half clock.  Mount Saint Vincent then went on a 19-7 scoring spree to increase its advantage to a 30 points (79-49) with 5:17 left.  Makai Johnson's free throw with 1:55 remaining stretched the Dolphins lead to a game-high 31 points (89-58).
Alan McDonald's 15 points (6-of-12 FG) paced Old Westbury.  Powell and Terrin Roland followed with 11 points apiece.  Yancy Ulysse swatted a game-high three blocks.   

Alkhulaidi's game-high 21 points and nine rebounds led the Dolphins.  Harris scored 17 and Jason Barrera tallied 10.  

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the floor, 30 percent (6-of-20) from beyond the arc and 75.9 percent (22-of-29) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Mount Saint Vincent connected on 44.3 percent (31-of-70) from the floor, 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from 3-point range and 68 percent (17-of-25) from the free-throw line.  Mount Saint Vincent won the boards battle, 51-32, while scoring 20 second-chance points off 21 offensive rebounds. Mount Saint Vincent scored 24 points off 18 Panther turnovers and held the edge in assists (22-9), steals (9-5), bench scoring (28-12), points in the paint (30-7).  Old Westbury led the way in blocks (3-1) and fastbreak points (4-2)
