@OW_Panthers Baseball takes two from St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

Old Westbury closes out regular-season play Saturday (Apr. 28) with a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Maritime College

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball came away with 12-5 and 6-1 Skyline Conference wins Tuesday evening against the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (5-28, 3-13 Skyline) from Gregg Alfano Field in Patchogue, New York.  Old Westbury (19-13-1, 11-5 Skyline) is now 12-2 all time versus St. Joseph's.

Game 1: Old Westbury 12, St. Joseph's 5
John Condon (0-for-3, 2 RBI, BB) broke the scoring ice with a first inning sacrifice fly off Bear starter Vincent Juliano (L, 3-0: 7.1 IP, 13 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) to score Liam Slattery (2-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 3B, 2B).

Old Westbury used a two-out rally in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead as a single by Jesse Russo (4-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 2B, SB) and Slattery's double both drove in runs.

St. Joseph's answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs to end Panther starter Jason Espinal's (ND: 1.2 IP, H, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 K) outing.

The Bears extended its lead in the third inning with Michael Gonzalez's two-run single that made it a two-run game (5-3).

Russo and Slattery doubled and tripled, respectively, to tie the game (5-5) in the fourth.  Three batters later, Peter Capel slapped a single through the right side to score Slattery for the game-winning run (6-5).

Old Westbury broke the game open with a six-run eighth inning keyed by Mike Manetta's (3-for-4, R, BB, 2 SB) two-run double.

Reliever Joshua Cruz (W, 2-0: 5 H, 2 R, BB, 4K) worked 5.1 innings to earn his second win of the season.

Game 2: Old Westbury 6, St. Joseph's 1
Shaun Kaminski (2-for-2, SB) singled in the second inning off Bear starter Andrew Watters (L, 1-3: 7 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 K) to score Manetta (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI, 3B, 2B, SB) for game's first run.

Old Westbury struck again in the third as David Hawley advanced home on a throwing error by catcher Matthew Trudden for the game-winning run.  John Fogarty then singled home Russo for the 3-0 lead.

The Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the sixth inning.  Condon opened the scoring with a RBI single before scoring on a Manetta RBI double.  Dom Kriegel drove in Manetta with a sacrifice fly two batters later.

St. Joseph's broke through in the sixth as Trudden scored on Anthony Palermo's RBI single to settle the 6-1 final.

Steven Tellerias (W, 2-0) allowed one run and fanned eight batters (two walks) while scattering six hits to register the complete game win.
