Old Westbury is headed to postseason play for the 11th-straight season at next week’s Skyline Conference Championship

THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball fell 10-9 in the opener and 7-6 in their regular-season finale Saturday afternoon to the Maritime College Privateers (23-12, 11-7 Skyline) in Skyline Conference action from Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, New York.  Old Westbury (19-15-1, 11-7 Skyline) has a record of 9-6 against Maritime since 2012. The Panthers advance to the postseason for the 11th-straight season and will await seedings for next week's Skyline Conference Championship.

Game 1: Maritime 10, Old Westbury 9
Old Westbury produced three-straight singles off Privateer starter Anthony D'Ancona (W, 6-1: 5.2 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) to set the stage for Mike Manetta (3-for-4, R, 3 RBI), who delivered a two-run single two batters later to give the Panthers a 2-0 first inning lead.

Maritime answered with back-to-back two-out run scoring singles off Panther starter Alipio Tiburcio (L, 2-1: 6 H, 5 R, ER, BB) to tie the game in the bottom of the first.

Old Westbury made three costly errors in the second inning that allowed Maritime to take a 5-3 lead as Tiburcio's outing came to a close.

Manetta sliced the deficit to two (5-3) in the third inning with a two-out RBI single to score Liam Slattery (2-for-4, 3 R, BB).

The Panthers pulled within one run (5-4) in the fourth on John Fogarty's two-out RBI double to advance Slattery home.

Maritime responded with two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth off reliever Joe Sarni (4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 5 K) to take a 10-4 lead.

Dean Sheridan (3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI) crushed a two-run homer in the seventh off reliever Dylan Clauden (2.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 2 K) to make it a 10-6 game.

John Condon (3-for-5, HR, RBI) led off the ninth with a home run and three batters later, Sheridan belted a two-run shot over the center field fence to slice Old Westbury's deficit to one (10-9).  Skylar Graff took over for Clauden to record the final two outs to lock down his sixth save of the season.

Game 2: Maritime 7, Old Westbury 6
Maritime jumped ahead with a three-run third inning on Panther starter Christian Tessitore (ND: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, ER, 3 BB, 2 K) as Matt Costleigh (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Stephen Semler (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R) produced run-scoring singles.

Old Westbury took a 5-3 lead with a big fourth inning off Privateer starter A.J. Ammirati (ND, 5.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 K). The Panthers led off the frame with five-straight batters reaching base as a fielding error by second baseman Chris Deddo (2-for-4) allowed Jesse Russo (2-for-4, R, SB) to score the first run.  Condon and Manetta (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) followed with RBI singles. Two batters later, Michael Borsch's single drove in Condon. Manetta then scored on a fielder's choice to push Old Westbury's lead to two.

Nick McTighe singled off Tessitore to lead off the fifth.  McTighe then advanced to third on wild pitches before Costleigh's single drove him in to end Tessitore's day as Maritime pulled within one run, 5-4.

Manetta took the first pitch of the sixth inning off Privateer reliever Matthew Buckshaw (ND: 1.0 IP, H, R, ER, K)and launched it over the right field fence to make it a 6-4 game.

Costleigh responded with a home run over the right field fence in the seventh inning off reliever Joshua Cruz (L, 2-1: 2.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K) to slice the deficit to one 6-5).  Three batters later, Jake Vera singled to round home Matt Eng before Shane Sullivan's (3-for-4, RBI) walk-off single scored Semler to settle the 7-6 final.
