@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball coast past Sarah Lawrence for 97-28 Skyline win

Old Westbury hits the road Thursday (Jan. 31) for a Skyline Conference tilt against St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball led by 38 points at the break and never looked back Thursday evening to record a 97-28 Skyline Conference home win against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (1-19, 0-14 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (15-4, 8-4 Skyline) are now 4-0 against Sarah Lawrence since the Gryphons joined the Skyline a season ago.

Alexis Lopez broke the scoring ice 1:59 in with a jumper to put Old Westbury ahead for good.  Moments later, Old Westbury's lead reached double-digits as Davida Warren dropped in two of her 16 first-half points to give Old Westbury a 12-2 advantage with 5:19 showing on the first-quarter clock.  The Panthers used a 22-2 run over the final 6:30 of second-quarter play to build a 38-point lead (50-12) heading into intermission.

Old Westbury's lead grew to 56 points (74-18) in the third with a 24-4 run and outscored the Gryphons by 17 in the final stanza to secure a game-high 69-point advantage at the final buzzer.

Warren led all scorers with 21 points (7-of-14 FG) while adding 14 rebounds and two steals to her statline to register her 14th-career double-double (10th of season).  Paige Jelinek made her first-career start and pulled down a personal-best 27 rebounds (12 offensive) to go along with 12 points to post her fourth-career double-double.  The 27 boards are the most by a Panther since Crystal Barnes grabbed 26 against Farmingdale State College on January 22, 2016.  Alessia Drevnyak scored a career-high 20 points (9-of-16 FG) and totaled 10 rebounds (eight offensive) and two blocks off the bench to record her second-career double-double.  Lopez finished with 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range while Monique Joseph contributed 14 points (7-of-8 FG), five steals, four assists and a career-high three blocks to the win.      

Sarah Lawrence was led by Emmamazy Prior's 12 points.

Old Westbury shot 49.4 percent (40-of-81) from the field, 50 percent (4-of-8) from three-point range and 52 percent (13-of-25) from the free-throw line.  Sarah Lawrence was just limited to 21.7 percent (13-of-60) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from beyond the arc and 0-of-4 from the charity stripe. Old Westbury dominated the boards, 71-23, scoring 25 second-chance points off 34 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers outplayed Sarah Lawrence in assists (29-12), blocks (7-2), steals (17-2), bench points (31-2), fastbreak points (51-4) and points in the paint (62-16) while scoring 39 points off 22 Gryphon turnovers.

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (L.I.) GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Patchogue Thursday (Jan. 31 ) for a Skyline Conference matchup against the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (3-16, 2-10 Skyline) at 1 p.m. inside Danzi Center. The Panthers are 9-0 against St. Joseph's (L.I.) dating back to the 2014-15 season.
