Williams leads Women’s Soccer in Skyline battle at Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Oct. 5) for a non-conference showdown against Lehman College

YONKERS, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer lost a 2-1 decision to the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (7-3-0, 3-1-0 Skyline) on the road in Skyline Conference action from Fleming Field in Yonkers, New York.  The loss moves the Panthers (5-5-0, 1-2-0 Skyline) to a 3-3 mark against the Gryphons dating back to the 2014 campaign.

Brianna Williams fired the game's first shot 1:31 in to put Old Westbury in the shot column before Niki Dalrymple slipped one past Panther goalie Yakeline Umanzor (4-3-0) at the 4:48 mark for Sarah Lawrence's 1-0 lead.  Despite trailing heading into intermission, Old Westbury held a 12-5 shot and 8-2 shots on goal advantage in the remaining 40:12 of the opening half.

Sarah Lawrence doubled its advantage in the 53rd minute courtesy of Maddie Eppler finishing Lainie Cadieuz's feed that proved to be the game-winner.  Old Westbury broke through in the 82nd minute as Williams put away Britney Graham's rebound past Gryphon netminder Madison Mertsch (3-2-0) to settle the 2-1 final.

Umanzor stopped a career-best eight shots while Mertsch made 14 saves to secure the Gryphons' win.

In the end, Old Westbury held the edge in shots (23-21), shots on target (15-9) while Sarah Lawrence led the way in corner kicks (5-1).  Jessica Pedroza landed four of her five shots on goal to pace Old Westbury's offensive attack.
