Women’s Volleyball returns to Skyline play with Monday’s showdown against USMMA

Old Westbury hits the road Wednesday (Oct. 23) for a Skyline Conference battle against Maritime College

KINGS POINT, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball fell in straight sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-11) to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (16-6, 9-1 Skyline) Monday evening in Skyline Conference action from Liebertz Gymnasium in Kings Point, New York.

Old Westbury (7-10, 2-6 Skyline) produced six kills and attacked at a rate of .211 during its opening set to finish the match firing away at a .014 clip.  USMMA hit .305 and outplayed the Panthers in points (53-20), kills (42-14), aces (9-4), assists (35-12) and digs (39-34) while both teams were even at two blocks apiece.

Leading the way for Old Westbury was Daesha Garrison, who totaled seven points on six kills four digs and one block solo.  Ally Parker served two aces and handed out nine assists to direct the Panthers' offensive attack.  Joelle Desrosiers nailed down four kills while Monica Crespo scooped up nine digs.

Taylor Gilbertson finished with a match-leading 14 kills as Kyleigh Kappas distributed 32 assists and nine digs to pace the Mariners to victory.  Paige smith served three aces while Juliet Vendl contributed nine kills and two block solos.

Old Westbury hits the road Wednesday (Oct. 23) for a Skyline Conference battle against the Maritime College Privateers at 7 p.m. from Riesenberg Gymnasium in Throggs Neck, New York.
