Men’s Soccer blanks Maritime to improve Skyline postseason position

Old Westbury will close out its home schedule Saturday (Oct. 26) with a Skyline Conference Senior Day battle against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer claimed a critical 1-0 Skyline Conference home win over the Maritime College Privateers (8-9-1, 3-5-1 Skyline) Wednesday afternoon from Panther Park.  The win gives Old Westbury (6-9-1, 4-5-0 Skyline) 12 points on the season to sit in sixth place in the league standings with just two games remaining in the regular season.

Maritime tested Panther goalie James Perciballi (6-9-1) early with an Anthony Sblendorio on-target attempt 3:29 in.  Grixon Moreira put Old Westbury in the shot column at the 5:03 mark before the Privateers took hold of the shot advantage, 5-2, over the remaining 39:57 to send a scoreless game into the break.

The game was settled in the 79th minute when Moreira placed his free kick in the box for Stephen Locurcio to slip past a diving Ethan Silver (2-3-1) and tally his first-career game-winning goal.

Perciballi turned away two shots to register his fourth-career shutout win for Old Westbury while Silver made one save in defeat for Maritime.

At the end of 90 minutes, Old Westbury led the way in shots (9-7) while Maritime held the edge in corner kicks (4-3).  Both teams finished with two shots on target.
