After a seesaw battle for the advantage in the opening 8:27,
Pierrce Perry slammed home
Cameron Winston's assist at the 11:04 mark to ignite 15-0 run for Old Westbury to claim the 11-point lead (27-16). Anthony McClean and Noah Shy scored Brooklyn's next five points to pull within six before
Pedro Marquez knocked down a triple with 1:24 remaining to send Old Westbury into the break with the 30-21 lead.
Old Westbury opened second-half play with four points coming off the hands of Perry and Winston on the free-throw line to grow the lead to a game-high 13 points (34-21) with 17:51 remaining. The Panthers maintained the momentum over the next 14:48 holding a 56-44 lead with 2:42 showing on the second-half clock. McClean sank a pair of freebies to kickstart a final 9-0 surge for the Bulldogs to pull within three points with 48 seconds left.
Jonathan Jamieson and Marquez then put together Old Westbury's four points to settle the 60-53 final.
Marquez finished with 19 points (5-of-11 FG, 4-of-8 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) and four steals to lead Old Westbury to victory. Perry followed with 12 points (4-of-9 FG, 4-of-6 FT), 12 rebounds and five blocks (game-high) to post his second-career double-double.
Justin Alleyne-Washington chipped in 12 points (5-of-12 FG) and a game-high 14 rebounds to register his 11th-career double-double while
Charles Wingate nabbed four steals.
McClean finished with 19 points and six rebounds to pace Brooklyn while Michael Tesoriero added 11 points and a game-high five steals.
In the end, Old Westbury finished the evening shooting
34.5 percent (
20-of-58) from the field,
26.3 percent (
5-of-19) from beyond the arc and
60 percent (
15-of-25) from the free-throw line. Brooklyn connected on
31.1 percent (
19-of-61) from the field,
27.6 percent (
8-of-29) from three-point territory and
70 percent (
7-of-10) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 51-35 while scoring 14 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed Brooklyn in blocks (7-1), points in the paint (26-22) and bench points (9-4) while scoring 21 points off 18 Bulldog turnovers. Brooklyn held the edge in assists (17-12), steals (14-13) and fastbreak points (20-13).
