@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball topples Yeshiva for seventh-straight win

Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday (Feb. 9) for a Skyline Conference matchup versus College of Mount Saint Vincent

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball stretched their winning streak to seven Tuesday evening with a 104-53 Skyline Conference road win against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (6-14, 3-11 Skyline) from The Wellness Center in New Rochelle, New York.  The Panthers (18-4, 11-4 Skyline) hit the century mark in points for the second-straight game to remain unbeaten (8-0) against the Maccabees since Yeshiva returned to the Skyline in 2015-16.

Tori Bellings and Davida Warren dropped in back-to-back layups to open a 4-0 lead 29 seconds in.  Following a Nicole Bick three-point play to pull Yeshiva within one (4-3), Old Westbury closed out the period with a 19-8 run over 8:12 of play to lead by 12 (23-11) at the end of one.  Playing with a double-digit lead for the final 33:40, Alessia Drevnyak scored eight of her 10 first-half points during the final 3:58 as the Panthers went on a 13-3 spurt to build a 49-29 halftime advantage.

The Panthers went up by 39 points (81-42) as Drevnyak netted six points during a 13-2 scoring spree to outscore Yeshiva 32-13 in the third period.  Old Westbury led by 30+ points for the final 14:31 and stretched its lead to a game-high 55 points (104-49) with 1:34 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.  

Warren poured in 22 points (8-of-11 FG, 6-of-7 FT) to lead all scorers while Drevnyak tied career highs of 20 points (10-of-12 FG) and four blocks.  Charlotte Renker collected her 44th-career double-double (16th of season) with 18 points (8-of-11 FG), 14 rebounds and three blocks. Monique Joseph totaled 16 points (8-of-10 FG) and seven assists.  Bellings added nine assists, eight rebounds and three steals as Alexis Lopez hit 4-of-7 from deep to finish with 14 points.

Tehilla Teigman paced Yeshiva with 14 points.  Bick scored 12 points and Michal Alge followed with 11.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 62.3 percent (43-of-69) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three-point territory and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the free-throw line.  Yeshiva connected on 23.1 percent (18-of-78) from the floor, 6.7 percent (1-of-15) from beyond the arc and 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury outrebounded Yeshiva by 19 and scored 20 second-chance points off 13 offensive boards.  The Panthers also outplayed the Maccabees in assists (28-6), blocks (10-1), fastbreak points (12-4), points in the paint (74-22) and bench scoring (28-12) while converting 22 Maccabee turnovers into 22 points. Yeshiva finished with an 11-9 edge in steals.

COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday (Feb. 9) when they travel to Riverdale, New York for a Skyline Conference matchup against the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (6-13, 5-9 Skyline) at 2:30 p.m. inside Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Panthers are 8-1 against the Dolphins dating back to the 2015-16 season.
