Kaminski shines as @OW_Panthers Baseball sweeps Mount Saint Mary in regular-season finale

Old Westbury is headed to postseason play for the 12th-straight season at next week’s Skyline Conference Championship

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball came away with 10-9 and 5-1 Skyline Conference regular-season finale wins Saturday afternoon against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (12-16, 6-10 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury (20-14-1, 12-6 Skyline) improve to a 7-5 mark against Mount Saint Mary dating back to the 2015 campaign. The Panthers advance to the postseason for the 12th-straight season and will await seedings for next week's Skyline Conference Championship.

Game 1: Old Westbury 10, Mount Saint Mary 9
Old Westbury took a 6-0 lead in the first inning on starter Christian Spano (ND: 3 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 BB).  With two outs on the board, the Panthers opened with a run-scoring single by Shaun Kaminski (4-for-5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI) and Drew Robertson (1-for-3, R, RBI) followed two batters later with a RBI walk to double the advantage.  The opening stanza was capped by a pair of two-RBI singles coming at the hands of Michael Borsch (1-for-5, R, 2 RBI) and Mike Manetta (4-for-5, R, 2 RBI, BB, 2-2B), who extended his hitting streak to 12 games, for the six-run cushion.

The Knights responded in the bottom frame with two runs scored on starter Patrick Quinn (ND: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 5 BB, 5 K) as Nick Rizzo (3-for-4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, 2B, SB) and Matt Barbieri earned back-to-back walks to drive in Steven Mirra (1-for-4, R, 2 RBI, BB) and Devin Tait, respectively.

Old Westbury tacked on a single run off Spano in the second and two runs in the fifth off reliever Alexander Maher (L, 0-2: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, ER, 2 BB, 2 K) to take the 9-4 lead.

Mount Saint Mary put together a four-run fifth to pull within one (9-8) and conclude Quinn's outing.

Rizzo launched one over the left field fence in the sixth inning on Panther reliever Joe Sarni (W, 3-2: 4.1 IP, 3 H, R, 3 K) to even the game at nine.

Kaminski crushed his first-career solo shot over the left field fence in the eighth inning, that proved to be the game-winner and settle the 10-9 final.

Game 2: Old Westbury 5, Mount Saint Mary 1
Old Westbury struck first with a three-run opening inning on starter John Santana (L, 2-2: 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K) highlighted by Brandon Wilson capitalizing on a error by shortstop Mirra for the game-winning run.  Condon kept his hitting streak alive to push it to 15 games a batter earlier with a run-scoring single and later scored off Kaminski's (4-for-4, R, RBI) single through the gap for the 3-0 lead.

Michael Digiovanni (3-for-3, R, SB) scored Mount Saint Mary's lone run of the game off Braden Perry's ground out on starter Christian Tessitore (W 4-3: 6 IP, 5 H, R, 2 BB, 7 K).

The Panthers put the game out of reach scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings on reliever Andrew Conners (2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, BB, K) to settle the 5-1 final.

Panther reliever Matt Bohenek tossed one inning of no-hit relief and fanned one batter to help secure the win.
