PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball wrapped up the 2019 season with 8-4 and 6-3 Skyline Conference road losses against the Purchase College Panthers (10-21, 5-10 Skyline) Monday afternoon from Purchase College Field in Purchase, New York. Making the Skyline Conference Championship appearance a season ago, Old Westbury will miss out on postseason play after posting a 9-18 overall record and finishing 2-14 in the league standings. Old Westbury moves to a 15-11 mark against Purchase dating back to the 2006 campaign.

Game 1: Purchase 8, Old Westbury 4
Purchase got to starter Ireland Normile (L, 0-2: 3 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, BB, K) by putting two runs on the board in the third inning. Cassidy Montes (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B) slapped a double to left center to drive in Victoria Capone-Froio (2-for-4, R) for the game's initial run. Kelly Hayes (2-for-4, R, RBI) followed with a run-scoring single to score Montes to double the advantage.

Old Westbury replied with three runs scored in the fourth inning on starter Montes (W, 6-9: 7 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 8 BB, 4 K). Jessica Schwartz (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 SB) pushed across Mallory Moretti and Johanna Metz with a double down the left field line to knot the game at two. Schwartz later scored off a Nicole Baron (1-for-2, RBI) single to take the 3-2 lead.

Purchase put together a five-run fourth on Normile and reliever Baron (3 IP, 7 H, 2 R, ER, 3 K) as Mae Testa Feliciano's (2-for-3, R, RBI, 2B) RBI double to advance Danielle Morelli (1-for-4, R, 2 RBI) 90 feet proved to be the game-winning run for the 5-3 lead.

Trailing 7-3 with one-out and the bases loaded, Isabel Febo (3 BB, RBI) earned a walk to plate Schwartz home in the sixth inning before Purchase added a single run in the bottom frame to settle the 8-4 final.

Game 2: Purchase 6, Old Westbury 3
Old Westbury struck first with run-scoring singles in the second and third innings on starter Kelly Agostini (W, 5-12: 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 5 BB, 4 K) coming at the hands of Febo (1-for-3, RBI, BB) and Metz (1-for-3, R, RBI, BB, SB), respectively, for the 2-0 lead.

Purchase broke into the scoring column scoring three runs in the fifth on starter Baron (L, 7-12: 6 IP, 15 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 K). Montes (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) singled and then scored off Hayes' (2-for-3, R, 2 RBI, 3B) triple to even the score at two. Hayes took advantage of an error by right fielder Lillian Chiauzzi to take the 3-2 lead.

Purchase put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth inning as a Hayes sacrifice fly out rounded Feliciano (1-for-3, R) home for the game-winning run.

Down 6-2, Metz earned a leadoff walk and scored two batters later off Baron's (1-for-3, R, RBI, BB, SB) ground out to settle the 6-3 final.

Baron registered her 29th-career complete-game effort in defeat for Old Westbury.

Old Westbury graduates a three-member senior class consisting of Baron (2018-19), Jennifer Lobody (2019) and Schwartz (2018-19).
