FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball dropped a 5-2 final to the second-seeded United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (28-9) Friday afternoon in the Skyline Conference Championship double-elimination round hosted by Farmingdale State College. The third-seeded Panthers are now 6-6 against the Mariners dating back to the 2012 campaign. With the loss, Old Westbury (21-15-1) will play the loser of the fourth-seeded Maritime College Privateers (22-16) and top-seeded Farmingdale State College Rams (29-7) Friday evening at 7 p.m. from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.

USMMA struck first in the second frame on starter Christian Tessitore (L, 4-4: 8 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, career-best 10 K) as Kyle Cunningham (1-for-3, 2 R, 2B) doubled to right center to leadoff the inning. Two batters later, Cunningham, sitting at third base, advanced 90 feet off a fielder's choice to shortstop Mike Manetta for the game's initial run.

The Mariners doubled the advantage in the third inning off a Vincenzo Alteri (2-for-3, R) RBI single.

Old Westbury replied with two runs scored in the fourth inning on starter Andrew Spinnenweber (W, 6-0: 6 H, 2 R, BB, 9 K). Manetta (1-for-4, R) and Brandon Wilson (1-for-4, R) used back-to-back singles to reach base to start the inning. John Condon (2-for-4, RBI) then extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a run-scoring single to slice the deficit to one. Peter Capel loaded up the bases after earning his 15th walk of the season before Shaun Kaminski (1-for-4, RBI) delivered the game-tying RBI single to push across Wilson and keep his hitting streak alive (eight games).

With a two-out and the bases loaded in the fifth, Alex Mesaros (1-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B) cleared the bases with a three-run double to score Garrett Aichele, Alteri and Cunningham for the game-winning runs and settle the 5-2 final.

Tessitore registered his third-career complete-game effort in defeat for Old Westbury as relievers Andrew Hunt and Cunningham (S, 12: K) tossed one inning no-hit relief to advance USMMA to Saturday's (May 4) game versus the winner of Maritime/Farmingdale State game at 10 a.m.
