FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) No. 3 SUNY Old Westbury baseball captured an 8-4 win Monday evening over the second-seeded United States Merchant Marine Academy (28-11) in game seven of the Skyline Conference Championship double-elimination round hosted by Farmingdale State College.  The Panthers (23-15-1) improve to a 7-6 mark against the Mariners dating back to the 2012 season.  With the win, Old Westbury advances to Tuesday's (May 7) Skyline finals and will face top-seeded Farmingdale State College Rams (31-7) at 4 p.m. from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.  Both teams last met in the 2015 title game, where the Panthers prevailed to an 11-4 game two win to hoist the league title.

Old Westbury struck first with a single run in the opening inning on starter John Kelly Jr. (L, 3-2: 5.1 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 BB).  Shaun Kaminski (2-for-5, R, 2 RBI) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-out RBI single through the left side to score Brandon Wilson (4-for-4, 2 R, RBI) for the game's initial run.

USMMA replied in the second inning as Alex Mesaros (2-for-4, R, RBI, 2B) slapped a lead off double on starter Adam Heidenfelder (ND: 5.2 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K) and advanced home off of Griffin Reddeck's (3-for-5, 2 RBI) run-scoring single to even the score at one.

Sean Paprocki (1-for-4, 2 R, BB) earned a two-out walk to keep the bottom frame alive.  Paprocki then capitalized on a throwing miscue by first baseman Vincenzo Alteri and a Kelly Jr. wild pitch to advance two bases.  Wilson pushed Paprocki 90 feet off a RBI single for Old Westbury to take the 2-1 lead.

The Mariners used single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the 3-2 lead and conclude Heidenfelder's day.

The Panthers put together a three-run sixth to take the 5-3 lead.  Mike Manetta (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI, BB, 2B) highlighted the inning by crushing a two-run double to plate Michael Borsch (1-for-3, R) and Paprocki home and later scored the game-winning run off John Condon's RBI fielder's choice to conclude Kelly Jr.'s outing.

USMMA pulled within one run in the seventh inning coming at the hands of Matt Mundorf's single.

Old Westbury put the game out of reach in the eighth inning with three runs scored on reliever Andrew Hunt (0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, BB).  Kaminski opened the scoring by driving in one run and Drew Robertson followed two batters later with a RBI double.  Kaminski scored the game's final run off Hunt's wild pitch to settle the 8-4 final.

Panther reliever Joe Sarni (W, 4-2: 3.1 IP, R) tied his career-high five strikeouts and scattered four hits to secure his career-best fourth win of the season.
