OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball put together a strong second-half showing outscoring the visiting Mount Saint Mary College Knights (4-12, 2-5 Skyline) 43-28 Saturday afternoon to claim a dominating 71-46 Skyline Conference win inside Clark Athletic Center. The win extends Old Westbury's (10-6, 6-1 Skyline) win streak to six games as the team improves to a 5-2 mark at home against the Knights dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Prior to opening tip, the coaching staff of head coach Bernard Tomlin (Old Westbury) and Ryan Kadlubowski (Mount Saint Mary) wore sneakers with their suits to raise awareness about the fight against cancer, and the American Cancer Society to show support for the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer® program.

Charles Wingate laid in two points after receiving a feed from Jordan Johnson-Rader 26 seconds into the opening half for Old Westbury's early 2-0 lead. After both teams experienced a scoring drought over the next 4:04, Paul Sienke sank a free-throw to ignite a 7-2 Mount Saint Mary run to make it a 7-4 game with 12:30 remaining. Old Westbury responded with a 12-2 spurt from 11:17 to 8:16 behind Shakirro Samuels' seven points to take the 16-9 lead. The Knights got in as close as four points (16-12) after Zach Swaby's freebie at the 5:43 mark. With 5:10 remaining, Pedro Marquez scored nine of his 11 first-half points during the Panthers' 12-6 run to send the 28-18 game into the break.
Justin Alleyne-Washington knocked down a jumper 15 seconds into the second-half to ignite a dominating 30-10 run to extend Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 30 points, 58-28, with 10:14 remaining. Over the next 4:32, Mount Saint Mary trimmed its deficit to 24 points (61-37) after putting together a 9-3 run. The Panthers remained in the driver's seat in the remaining 4:58 by outscoring the Knights 10-9 to settle the 71-46 final.
Marquez led all scorers with 20 points (7-of-15 FG, 4-of-5 FT) and dished out three assists. Wingate followed with 14 points and three steals. Alleyne-Washington chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals while Samuels scored career-best 10 points (4-of-4 FG, 2-of-4 FT) and nabbed a personal-best four steals.
Sienke finished with 12 points (4-of-9 FG) while Kendall Francis dished out a game-high five assists to pace Mount Saint Mary. Ethan Fox pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Old Westbury finished the contest shooting 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field, 33.3 percent (8-of-24) from beyond the arc and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free-throw line. Mount Saint Mary connected on 26.4 percent (14-of-53) from the field, 9.1 percent (2-of-22) from three-point territory and 44.4 percent (16-of-36) from the charity stripe. The Knights held a +7 rebound margin (43-36) while 10 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed Mount Saint Mary in assists (14-9), blocks (6-1), steals (12-5), points in the paint (28-24), fastbreak points (20-12) and bench points (24-17) while scoring 21 points off 22 Knight miscues.
