OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball fell 85-60 to the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (14-3, 12-0 Skyline) Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference home action inside Clark Athletic Center. The setback moves Old Westbury (7-10, 7-5 Skyline) to a 2-3 mark at home against Mount Saint Mary since the 2015-16 campaign.
After a closely contested opening three minutes, Davida Warren sank a pair of free-throws at the 6:59 mark to ignite an 8-2 Old Westbury run to claim the five-point lead, 12-7, with 2:53 left. Mount Saint Mary responded by scoring 10-straight points during the next 2:45 to take the 17-12 lead into the second quarter. La'Niya Clark connected from deep 1:12 into the second stanza to kickstart an 14-8 spurt for the Panthers to hold a narrow 26-25 advantage with 3:34 left. The Knights responded with six-unanswered points from 3:02 to 1:30 before Warren laid in two with 1:07 remaining to pull Old Westbury within three points, 31-28, heading into the break.
Old Westbury battled to keep the game close by outscoring Mount Saint Mary 18-14 over 6:21 of third-quarter play for the team to regain the brief one-point lead, 46-45, with 3:23 left. Cameron Villanueva's layup started a 12-4 run from 3:03 to 4 seconds for Mount Saint Mary to retake the lead for good, 57-50. The Knights remained in the driver's seat over 9:19 of fourth-quarter play by putting together a 28-8 run, headlined by Morina Bojka's 11 points, to extend its lead to a game-high 27 points, 85-58.
Marva Dudley-Adams closed out the game with a pair of freebies to settle the 85-60 final.
Warren finished with 18 points (7-of-12 FG, 4-of-5 FT) and 12 rebounds (eight offensive) to post her 31st-career double-double (11th on the season). Clark followed with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals while Micah Browne chipped in with 12 points (6-of-6 FT) and six assists.
Bojka led all scorers with 25 points (10-of-22 FG, 4-of-4 FT), six rebounds and two steals to lead Mount Saint Mary to triumph. Annie Keenan contributed 22 points (8-of-10 FG, 3-of-4 3FG, 3-of-6 FT), 10 rebounds and three steals. Lauren Desrats added 15 points and three steals.
In the end, Old Westbury connected on 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from three-point territory and 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the free-throw line. Mount Saint Mary finished the evening shooting 47.8 percent (33-of-69) from the field, 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 42-39, while scoring 16 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds. The Knights outplayed Old Westbury in assists (20-10), steals (11-4), points in the paint (42-32), bench points (15-5) and fastbreak points (24-10) while scoring 27 points off 23 Panther miscues.
