Pair of double-digit scorers pace Men’s Basketball at Manhattanville

Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Feb. 1) for a Skyline Conference battle against Purchase College

PURCHASE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.comSUNY Old Westbury men's basketball seven-game winning streak was snapped Thursday evening after falling 75-51 to the Manhattanville College Valiants (11-6, 6-2 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action inside Kennedy Gymnasium in Purchase, New York. The setback moves the Panthers to an 11-7 overall mark and 7-2 in league play.

Pierrce Perry sank a free throw for Old Westbury's early 1-0 lead 54 seconds into the opening half. Over the next 13:02, Jake Dunn and JoJo Cobbs combined for 19 points as part of Manahattanville's dominating 35-10 run to build the first-half high 24-point cushion, 35-11. The Panthers worked to trim away at the deficit, outscoring the Valiants 9-5 from 4:47 to 10 seconds, behind Justin Alleyne-Washington's five points to send the 40-20 game into intermission.

Old Westbury pulled within 18 points (42-24) after a Charles Wingate layup at the 17:14 mark of second-half play. Manhattanville put together a 15-6 run started by Mike Granda's three-pointer at 15:08 to extend the lead to a game-high 27 points, 57-30, with 12:36 remaining. The Panthers turned up the offensive intensity from 11:48 to 3:27 and used a much needed 17-5 run, headlined by Pedro Marquez's seven points, to trail by 15 points (62-47). The Valiants maintained their composure in the remaining 2:49 by closing out with a 13-4 surge to settle the 75-51 final.

Marquez finished with 16 points (7-of-7 FT) while Alleyne-Washington followed with 13 points (5-of-8 FT) and eight rebounds to pace Old Westbury.
 
Dunn led all scorers with 20 points (9-of-10 FT) in Manhattanville's triumph. Cobbs chipped in 15 points (5-of-8 FG, 2-of-2 3FG), nine rebounds and five assists (game-high). Granda added 15 points and two steals while Khari Taylor pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on season lows of 19 percent (12-of-63) from the field and 4.3 percent (1-of-23) from three-point territory while sinking 66.7 percent (26-of-39) from the free-throw line.  Manhattanville finished the evening shooting 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, 28 percent (7-of-25) from beyond the arc and 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the charity stripe. The Valiants held a +9 rebound margin (55-46) while scoring 13 second-chance points off 13 offensive boards. Both teams drew even in steals (5-5) and bench points (13-13) as Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (4-2). Manhattanville outplayed Old Westbury in assists (15-5), points in the paint (38-20) and fastbreak points (18-10) in addition to scoring 11 points off 10 Panther miscues.

Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Feb. 1) for a Skyline Conference battle against the Purchase College Panthers (12-6, 7-2 Skyline) at 2 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center. The Panthers will enter Saturday's matchup 7-2 against Purchase since the 2014-15 season.
