BRONXVILLE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball held a double-digit lead for the final 23:59 of play to open the 2020 year with a 69-20 Skyline Conference road win Saturday afternoon against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (0-11, 0-6 Skyline) inside Campbell Sports Center in Bronxville, New York. The Panthers (5-6, 5-1 Skyline) improved to 5-0 against Sarah Lawrence since the Gryphons joined the Skyline two seasons ago.
Davida Warren laid in two points to ignite a 10-3 Old Westbury run in the game's opening 6:53. Camryn Davis knocked down back-to-back jumpers to pull Sarah Lawrence within three points, 10-7, with 1:07 remaining in the first quarter.
Ja'nya Flash sank a pair of free-throws to send Old Westbury into the second stanza with the 12-7 lead. Demita Loukopoulos scored a freebie for the Gryphons at the 8:14 mark of the second quarter. Warren then erupted for 12 points as part of the Panthers' 16-0 spurt in the remaining 7:58 and sent the 28-8 game into the break.
Ahead by 37 points (53-16) after three periods, Old Westbury scored 16 fourth-quarter points to extend its cushion to a game-high 49 points as Flash scored six of Old Westbury's final 10 points to settle the 69-20 final.
Warren led all scorers with 22 points (9-of-19 FG, 4-of-6 FT), pulled down seven rebounds and nabbed three steals to pace Old Westbury. Flash followed with 12 points (4-of-8 FT) and a career-best 19 rebounds to post her third-career double-double.
La'Niya Clark chipped in with a game-high four steals to go along with six assists while
Micah Browne dished out six assists.
Davis finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds and two steals for Sarah Lawrence.
In the end, Old Westbury finished the afternoon shooting 37.2 percent (29-of-78) from the field, 20 percent (2-of-10) from beyond the arc and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the free-throw line. Sarah Lawrence connected on 15.5 percent (9-of-58) from the field, 0 percent (0-of-24) from three-point territory and 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 69-38, while scoring 18 second-chance points off 29 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed Sarah Lawrence in assists (20-4), blocks (5-1), steals (19-5), fastbreak points (8-0), bench points (20-0) and points in the paint (52-8) while scoring 30 points off 30 Gryphon turnovers.
