PATCHOGUE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball outscored the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (5-15, 0-12 Skyline) 43-31 in the second half en route to a dominating 81-56 Skyline Conference road triumph Saturday afternoon inside Danzi Athletic Center in Patchogue, New York. With the win, the Panthers (13-8, 9-3 Skyline) improve to a 14-3 against St. Joseph's since the 2012-13 campaign.
 
Charles Wingate knocked down a jumper 31 seconds into the game for Old Westbury's early 2-0 lead. St. Joseph's responded 18 seconds later with a 14-2 run capped by a pair of Matthew Lavin free-throws at 15:58 to claim the team's game-high advantage 10 points, 14-4. Over the next seven minutes, the Panthers battled to trim the deficit by using a 13-3 run to knot the game at 17. Michael Darby connected from deep at 7:40 for the Golden Eagles to hold the narrow three-point lead, 20-17. From 7:23 to 5:14, Old Westbury erupted for 17-unanswered points, headlined by 
Pedro Marquez scoring 11 of his 15 first-half points, to claim the lead for good, 34-20. St. Joseph's put together a brief 5-2 spurt during the span of 1:48 to pull within 11 points (36-25) before Marquez laid in two with 40 seconds left to send the 38-25 game into the break.
 
Frank Basile opened the second-half scoring with a layup 28 seconds in for St. Joseph's to get in as close as 11 points, 38-27. 
Justin Alleyne-Washington's triple at 19:19 ignited a 26-8 Panther run to build the game-high 29-point cushion, 64-20, with 12:34 remaining. Over the remaining 12:29, the Golden Eagles outscored Old Westbury 21-17 to settle the 81-56 final. 
 
Coming off the bench, Marquez finished with 23 points (8-of-14 FG, 5-of-9 3FG, 2-of-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and one steal to lead Old Westbury to victory. Wingate followed with 17 points (7-of-11 FG, 3-of-5 3FG), four rebounds two assists and two steals while Alleyne-Washington chipped in with 15 points (7-of-9 FT) and seven rebounds.
 
Darby finished with 23 points (8-of-21 FG, 5-of-11 3FG, 2-of-4 FT), six rebounds and two steals while Jonah Caldwell pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to pace St. Joseph's .
 
In the end, Old Westbury shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the field, 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from beyond the arc and 68.4percent (13-of-19) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's connected on 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the floor, 30 percent (9-of-30) from three-point territory and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 44-33, scoring seven second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds. The Panthers outplayed St. Joseph's in assists (15-11), blocks (4-3), steals (6-5), fastbreak points (8-2), bench points (38-8) and points in the paint (32-16) while scoring 17 points off 13 Golden Eagle miscues.
