OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Today (March 18, 2021) SUNY Old Westbury Vice President for Student Affairs & Chief Diversity Officer Usama Shaikh, announced the institution's plan to play baseball, softball and men's golf in the spring.
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the Old Westbury Panthers are back and will resume spring sports with the return of baseball, men's golf and softball. The first Skyline contest will take place Saturday, March 20, when Panthers baseball visits St. Joseph's Brooklyn. It has been a year since the Panthers have taken the field - the pandemic has kept the student athletes and coaches off the field for far too long, and we're excited to get back out there.
Due to the alternate care facility on the Old Westbury campus, all athletics activity has been moved off campus. Additionally, New York State Department of Health guidance allows for no spectators at the moment, therefore all home games will be livestreamed on the Old Westbury Panthers Athletics website. The first home game is scheduled for the baseball team on Sunday, March 21 at 11 a.m. against St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
Our return to play guidelines include reporting of daily COVID 19 screenings; mask mandate for all student athletes and staff; weekly testing for all student athletes and staff; bus capacity reduced to 50%; no handshakes or group celebrations. An increase of COVID positivity rates could delay or pause competition.
Be sure to keep up with the Panthers this spring on the Old Westbury Panthers Athletics website and connect and follow the Panthers on social media:
