FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury baseball (4-0, 3-0 Skyline) extended its winning streak to four, by completing a sweep of the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (0-6, 0-3 Skyline) by a score of 11-4 in the Skyline Conference showdown and was followed by the 14-2 non-conference final.
Game 1: Old Westbury 11, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 4
The Panthers broke the scoring ice in the home half of the opening frame as
Brandon Wilson (3-for-3, 3 RBI, BB, SB) slapped an RBI single down the left field line off of Bear starter Mike Santoriello (L, 0-1: 5.1 IP, 16 H, 10 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) that brought home
John Dell'Olio (2-for-5, 3 R, 3B, 2 SB, BB).
In the second inning,
Charlie Eisele (2-for-4, 2 RBI) smacked a single to right field that scored
Drew Robertson (4-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB) to double the lead to a pair of runs (2-0).
In the bottom of the third inning, following a sacrifice fly by
Shaun Kaminski, Robertson hit a single down the right field line to plate Wilson to extend the lead to four (4-0).
In the top of the fourth inning, the Bears tried to make a comeback as Nicholas Hernandez laid down a sacrifice bunt off of Panther starter
Brandon O'Brien (W, 1-0: 6 IP, 7 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K) to make it a 4-1 game.
The Panthers immediately stepped on the gas and scored six-straight runs that would ultimately seal the 11-4 victory.
Game 2: Old Westbury 14, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 2
Old Westbury registered five first inning runs that were highlighted by a two-run home run by Wilson (3-for-3, 3 RBI, HR, 2 R) that cleared the left field fence off of Bear starter C.J. Bunnicelli (L, 0-1: 2 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, K).
In the top of the second inning, the Bears responded by scoring a pair of runs, including an RBI double to left center field by Louis Lombardi, off of Panther starter
Vinny Trovato (W, 1-0: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K).
The Panthers quickly countered by compiling the final nine runs of the game that started on a home run by
Mike Manetta (3-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB) that sailed over the right field fence to start the bottom of the second frame.
The scoring barrage also featured RBI doubles by Dell'Olio and Kaminski, respectively, to help Old Westbury cruise to a 14-2 victory.
